The Rector of Unimore appointed President of the General Assembly of Rectors and Presidents of UNIgreen

The Rector of Unimore Prof. Carlo Adolfo Porro has been appointed, with unanimous support, President of the General Assembly of Rectors and Presidents of UNIgreen, the first European University in the field of sustainable agriculture, green biotechnologies and environmental and life sciences, which, together with the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, involves seven other European Universities and Higher Education Institutes, the University of Almería (Spain) - coordinator of the network, the Higher Institute of the Province of Liege (Belgium), the University of Life Sciences in Warsaw (Poland), the Polytechnic University of Coimbra (Portugal), the Agricultural University of Plovdiv (Bulgaria), the Agricultural University of Iceland (Iceland) and the Sup'Biotech Higher School of Biotechnology (France).
The vision of the UNIgreen Alliance is based on the conception of the university as an engine of ecological transformation, where students and the entire academic community develop values, knowledge, skills and abilities to become agents of the transition to a climate-neutral and resource-efficient economy, supported by an ecosystem that connects education, research, innovation and society to promote sustainable development.
With this in mind, the new Joint Doctorate Course in Agri-food Science, Technology and Biotechnology - STEBA UNIgreen will start next academic year. Based on the pre-existing PhD in Agri-food Science, Technology and Biotechnology at Unimore, this new joint degree is the result of collaboration between five members of the UNIgreen Alliance. The PhD degree will, in fact, be jointly awarded by the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia (administrative seat of the course), the University of Almeria (Spain), the Agricultural University of Plovdiv (Bulgaria), the Agricultural University of Iceland (Iceland) and the Polytechnic University of Coimbra (Portugal).
The new PhD programme aims to provide doctoral and post-doctoral students with advanced training in the fields of agro-food sciences, technologies and biotechnologies, with a focus on sustainability aspects in support of the green transition. This course aims to train highly qualified experts to independently develop research, to spread the results through scientific publications, to plan and present research projects and to transfer the results both to academia and to companies in the agri-food sector.
