Till July 26 the Summer School 'Discovering Italy: a Gateway to Europe'

The Department of Linguistic and Cultural Studies at Unimore holds the first edition of the Summer School Discovering Italy: a Gateway to Europe, in collaboration with the Marco Biagi Foundation, until July 26.
The Summer School, which will take place in presence in Modena, will offer Chinese students from the Southwestern University of Finance and Economics (SWUFE) in Chengdu, accompanied by their Rector Prof. Zhang Jiarui, a first-hand experience with Italy and Europe.
Topics will include the evolution of the European Union, the Erasmus programme for student mobility and European integration. Cultural differences between East and West, English as a European "lingua franca", and basic Italian phrases and greetings, useful for ordering food and drinks, will also be explored.
Italian culture and history will be the focus of some lectures, including literature, art and the history of Ancient Rome. Space will also be given to European music, from classical to modern composers, and the organisation of museum sites, with a special focus on the Uffizi.
The Italian education system, the structure of Italian schools and the excellence of the Modena area, between tradition and innovation, will be explored. Furthermore, the theme of Made in Italy in fashion, food and tourism will be addressed, as well as the relationship of Italians with the rest of the world.
The Summer School will offer Chinese students an important opportunity to learn about Italian culture and history, opening a door to the European reality, remarks Prof. Franca Poppi, the programme's scientific director. I believe this is a fundamental moment to promote mutual understanding between different cultures and nations, in perfect harmony with our university's commitment to internationalisation processes.
