19th international cooperation volunteer course: applications due by Oct. 14

Starting Sept. 2, 2024, it is possible to apply to participate in the 19th edition of the International Cooperation Volunteer Course, sponsored by the City of Modena. The course, which will start on November 23, 2024, provides 25 places and offers theoretical training and operational skills with the aim of stimulating and enhancing the presence of young people in international cooperation. At the same time, it supports the growth of the Modenese associative fabric that works through development cooperation and solidarity projects, facilitating the relationship between course participants and the already existing realities in the area.

The program is divided into ten educational weekends, from November 2024 to October 2025, to which are added additional laboratory activities and workshops. In the course, face-to-face lectures with academics and experts will alternate with testimonies of volunteers, workshop activities, analysis of experiences and good practices, and moments of discussion and comparison.

After an introduction to international cooperation, the contents covered will be: economics, global inequalities and possible alternatives; the gender approach in cooperation; international migration between narratives and respect for human rights; and rights and conflict management in international cooperation. Project management techniques for learning how to design and manage international cooperation projects will also be explored, as well as strategies for communicating cooperation. Finally, ample space will be devoted to preparing for the trip and volunteer experience and getting to know the associations involved in international cooperation in the Modena area.

To encourage moments of confrontation between different cultures, the students will in fact be able to carry out a volunteer experience, in Italy or abroad, with departures scheduled between July and December 2025. At the end of the course, there will be a time to give back and share experiences. The educational activities will take place in Galleria Europa and in the Overseas NGO headquarters in Spilamberto, in compliance with current safety regulations. Applications can be submitted until Monday, Oct. 14.

The course for international cooperation volunteers is organized by the Office for European Projects, International Relations and Coordination of Complex Projects of the Municipality of Modena, in collaboration with the Emilia-Romagna Region, the Province of Modena, the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, Solidarity and Cooperation - Cipsi, Csv Terre Estensi and Overseas, and thanks to the financial support of the Modena Foundation. Associations that participate in the Table of Cooperation and International Solidarity coordinated by the Municipality of Modena will also take part in the course.

The course has received the patronage of the Emilia-Romagna Region, Anci, the Municipality of Spilamberto and the National Coordination of Local Authorities for Peace and Human Rights. Applications must be submitted by noon on Monday, Oct. 14, using the forms downloadable from the website (www.comune.modena.it/europa-e-relazioni-internazionali) where details of the call for applications and the criteria by which selections will be made from all applications received by the deadline can also be found.
