Unimore and CUS MO.RE to Make History at the European Universities Games

Securing a spot in the competition is a historic milestone for the University. It follows their triumph at the 2025 National University Championships (CNU), which earned Unimore direct qualification for the European tournament. The Modena-Reggio Emilia squad will be the only Italian university to have qualified on merit, joined only by the University of Salerno, who entered automatically as the host institution.

The delegation will depart on 15 July, ahead of the General Technical Meeting on 16 July, where the group stage draw will take place and the match schedule will be finalised.

The European Universities Games represent the pinnacle of university sport in Europe, bringing together over 4,500 student-athletes representing more than 400 universities from across the continent.

In the men’s volleyball tournament, Unimore will face fifteen other universities from fourteen European countries: the University of Zagreb (Croatia), Charles University (Czech Republic), the University of Montpellier (France), the University of Rostock (Germany), the Hungarian University of Sports Science (Hungary), Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (Lithuania), the Technical University of Moldova (Moldova), the Western Norway University of Applied Sciences (Norway), the University of Porto (Portugal), the West University of Timisoara (Romania), the University of Maribor (Slovenia), the University of Barcelona and the University of Valencia (Spain), Fenerbahce University (Turkey), as well as the University of Salerno.

The Unimore squad comprises student-athletes enrolled in the Unimore Sport Excellence programme, which allows students to balance their academic studies with elite competitive sports. Indeed, the members of the roster play for clubs competing in Italy's top national volleyball leagues.

The delegation of athletes includes Giovanni Battilani (Anderlini Volley), Stefano Bedin (Univolley Carpi), Andrea Bertoni (Pallavolo Bologna), Filippo Luppi (Volley Sassuolo), Riccardo Montaggioli (Stadium Mirandola), Lorenzo Orlando (Volley Sassuolo), Michele Pagani (PGS Smile), Ernesto Rascato (Volley Sassuolo), Massimo Schiavoni (Lube Volley), Davide Signorini (Volley Team Club srl), Demetrio Soli (Volley Sassuolo), Daniele Somma (FB Soliera), Alessandro Storchi (Volley Tricolore Reggio Emilia), and Giacomo Tamagnini (GS Vigili del Fuoco Reggio Emilia).

The staff will consist of head coach Andrea Tomasini, assistant coach Luigi Parisi, team manager Simone Iaia, physiotherapist Davide Beneventi, and scoutman Mattia Zulli.
