2026 AlmaLaurea Report: Unimore ranks top among large comprehensive universities for master’s graduate employment at 1 and 5 years post-graduation

The University of Modena and Reggio Emilia has reaffirmed its position at the top of national rankings for graduate employability. Indeed, the 28th AlmaLaurea Report confirms that Unimore ranks first among large Italian comprehensive universities (those with between 20,000 and 40,000 enrolled students) for the employment rate of second-cycle (master’s) graduates at five years after completing their degrees. These results surpass those of mega universities (over 40,000 students) such as Sapienza, the University of Padua, and the University of Bologna, placing Unimore at the very forefront among institutions of comparable size.

This leading position is accompanied by further improvements in indicators concerning bachelor’s graduates, quality of employment, and contractual stability.

The 2026 edition analysed bachelor’s and master’s graduates from 2024 interviewed one year after graduation, and master’s graduates from 2020 surveyed five years post-graduation, involving a total of 10,073 Unimore graduates.

Among the 2024 bachelor’s graduates who chose not to continue their university studies, the employment rate one year after graduation reached 87% (compared to the Emilia-Romagna regional average of 81%), showing further growth from the 84.5% recorded in the previous Report. The quality of employment has also improved: 35% of those employed hold a permanent contract (up from 33% in 2025), while reliance on part-time work has decreased from 15% to 11.5%. Furthermore, the average net monthly salary has risen from €1,486 to €1,540 (the average in Emilia-Romagna is €1,491). More than half of those employed (61%) consider their degree to be very effective or effective for their current job.

The behaviour of Unimore graduates reflects a strong inclination towards advanced education: 59% decide to pursue a second-cycle programme, while 39% choose to enter the job market directly.

As for second-cycle graduates, the overall employment rate one year after obtaining their qualification reached 90%, compared to a regional average of 84.5% in Emilia-Romagna and a national average of 81%. The average net monthly salary stands at €1,604 for two-year master’s graduates, compared to a regional average of €1,535 and a national average of €1,495.

Moreover, 68% of those employed judge their degree to be effective or very effective in relation to the work they perform.

The results recorded five years post-graduation are particularly significant. The employment rate of 2020 second-cycle graduates reached 97%, a marked improvement on the already high 94% recorded in the previous Report. Three out of four employed graduates (75%) can rely on a permanent contract, and part-time work affects just 4.4% of two-year master’s graduates.

The average net monthly salary for two-year master’s graduates stands at €1,932 (compared to €1,910 in Emilia-Romagna and €1,903 nationally), while 69% of those in employment consider their degree to be very effective or effective for their job.

Overall, the 2026 AlmaLaurea Report confirms Unimore’s ability to guide its graduates towards swift and high-quality professional integration. Compared to the previous survey, clear improvements have emerged for bachelor’s graduates, with an increase in employment rates, a higher proportion of stable contracts, and rising salaries, alongside a reduction in part-time work. The progress recorded five years after graduation for second-cycle programmes is even more pronounced, with an employment rate exceeding 96%, further consolidating the University's leading position in fostering graduate employability.
