Reggio Emilia to host UNIgreen Festival: five days of activities with students from across the UNIgreen Alliance

The Festival will take place at the Reggiane Innovation Park (Capannone 15C) and will be delivered as a Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) organised by the Department of Communication and Economics, under the academic leadership of Professor Massimiliano Panarari. Held entirely in English, the event will bring together 40 students from partner institutions across the UNIgreen Alliance: the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, the University of Almería, the University College of the Province of Liège, the Warsaw University of Life Sciences, the Polytechnic University of Coimbra, the Agricultural University of Plovdiv, the Agricultural University of Iceland, and SupBiotech Engineering School of Biotechnology.
Running from Monday to Friday, the programme features a mix of seminars, workshops, hands-on sessions and study visits. It will involve several departments and research centres based in Reggio Emilia, as well as key local organisations such as the Municipality of Reggio Emilia, Fondazione E35, Fondazione Reggio Children, the Parmigiano Reggiano Consortium, Legacoop, Palazzo Magnani and TEDx Reggio Emilia.
The programme combines academic perspectives with practical work on topics such as student leadership, democratic innovation, political communication, European citizenship and sustainable communities. It also places strong emphasis on developing transferable skills, including teamwork, public speaking, and the effective use of digital tools and artificial intelligence.
Alongside the core programme, a number of events open to the wider Unimore student community are planned. These include recreational and sports activities on Tuesday 21 April (1.005.30 pm), organised with CUS More; an Earth Day Party on Wednesday 22 April (7.0011.30 pm) at Pirru Café; and a Career Day on Thursday 23 April (11.00 am1.30 pm), featuring sessions on using artificial intelligence in job searches and improving public speaking skills.
The Festival will conclude on Friday 24 April with a plenary session attended by Professor Cristina Iani, Deputy Rector for the Reggio Emilia campus, during which students will present the outcomes of their work and reflect on their experience.
The UNIgreen Festival offers a valuable opportunity for international exchange on democratic participation and sustainability in both academic and wider societal contexts. Students are at the heart of the initiative: Unimore students have been directly involved in organising the event and shaping its content, reflecting the UNIgreen Alliances ongoing commitment to greater student participation in decision-making.
Through workshops, group work and collaboration with local partners that adopt participatory governance models, the Festival provides an immersive learning experience that connects academic knowledge with real-world practice, supporting the development of European citizenship, employability and civic engagement in line with Erasmus+ priorities.
