Creation of the Association of Professors Emeritus of Unimore: expertise and relations at the service of the University and the territory

The Association of Professors Emeriti of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia has been officially established, with headquarters in Via Università 4, Modena. University professors who have been awarded the title of Professor Emeritus (a position defined in Royal Decree No. 1592 of 31 August 1933 and granted by Decree of the Ministry of University and Research) are automatically eligible upon request, as final recognition of a scientific and academic career of particular and recognised prestige. Professors Emeriti are by right granted the optional continuation of university activities and the use of facilities and services of the Departments and the University. One of the Association's aims is to foster relations between Italian and foreign Professors Emeriti and with similar associations at national and international level. As of today, there are 18 ordinary members out of 35 Unimore professors emeriti.

Unimore, with the establishment of the Association, is aligning itself with what has been achieved in the major national and international universities, where the figure of Professor Emeritus, representing the highest academic rank, is present in almost all the world's universities, and with which the Association intends to interface as soon as possible.

The newly-established association intends to be at the service of the university and society, particularly in the Modena and Reggio Emilia area, bringing with it a precious heritage of prestige, knowledge, skills and relationships accumulated by its members, which enable it to give life to initiatives with an integrated multidisciplinary character, bringing together scholars with different cultural backgrounds, both scientific and humanistic. The association is open to collaborations with other cultural institutes or associations in the Modena and Reggio Emilia areas for the purpose of discussion and dissemination to initiate reflections with citizens on relevant contemporary issues.

'Ours is a non-profit association and we are grateful ,' emphasises President Professor Dino Giovannini, ' to those who have worked to establish and promote the Association. We are convinced of the importance of the initiative from which the University and the cities of Modena and Reggio Emilia will benefit and be enriched by the availability of a wide range of knowledge and skills. I would like to warmly thank the Rector Magnificus, who has given us full support by making the University's services and expertise available for the realisation of our project'.

The Association is open to all Professors Emeriti of Unimore who wish to join it, making their knowledge and skills available in the forms and ways that will be most appropriate for the realisation of initiatives and activities of cultural and social utility consistent with the provisions of the Statute.

The Association has its own website, which can be accessed at the following link.
