Unimore's Prof. Pellati's study awarded in Lisbon for innovation in pharmaceutical chemistry and precision medicine

Renowned international scientists gathered at the International Conference on Prescriptomics and Precision Medicine 2025 to discuss the results of their research in the field of precision medicine, aiming to encourage interdisciplinary exchange in this area.
The Department of Life Sciences at Unimore also participated in the conference, presenting a study led by Professor Federica Pellati, a lecturer in Pharmaceutical Chemistry, on the role of non-psychotropic cannabinoids in central and peripheral neuropathic pain. This study was honoured with an award for innovation in pharmaceutical chemistry and precision medicine.

“The research we conducted,” commented Professor Federica Pellati, “focused on an innovative therapy based on the combination of natural compounds aimed at modulating pain through the reduction of neuroinflammation mediated by cannabinoid CB2 receptors. This represents a very promising approach in the treatment of this type of chronic pain, which affects a significant proportion of the population.”

“I am very grateful to all the colleagues,” Professor Pellati concluded, “who participated in the research funded by the PRIN2022 programme: Professor Nicoletta Galeotti from the University of Florence and Professor Claudia Mugnaini from the University of Siena.”

On the same occasion, PhD candidate Laura Bertarini from the School of Clinical and Experimental Medicine (CEM), a member of Professor Pellati’s research group, was awarded Best Poster Presentation for a project related to lipidomic studies of non-alcoholic steatohepatitis, conducted in collaboration with Professor Pietro Andreone’s research group as part of the PNRR project “HEAL ITALIA”, coordinated by Professor Massimo Dominici of Unimore.
