Awards for the Athletes of the Unimore Sport Excellence Programme 2024/25 Edition

The award ceremony for the athletes of the 2024/25 edition of the Unimore Sport Excellence programme took place this morning at the CUS MO.RE headquarters in Modena. During the event, 7 of the 98 selected for the latest edition of the programme were awarded: four with the Mattia Dall’Aglio scholarships, two with the Luciano Landi scholarships, and one athlete with the SAU Group scholarship.

The Unimore Sport Excellence programme, established through an agreement between CONI and Unimore in June 2017, aims to support the academic journey of student-athletes who are continuously engaged in competitive sports at national and international levels.

Being part of this project creates the conditions for talented young athletes to successfully balance competitive sport and university studies, enabling access to what is known as a ‘dual career’. This system includes benefits and tools implemented by the University to support the completion of academic careers alongside athletic ones. Among these are the assignment of an academic tutor and the awarding of a diploma supplement, issued upon graduation to certify the dual pathway,” commented Prof. Isabella Morlini, the Rector’s Delegate for Sport.

UNIMORE SPORT EXCELLENCE SCHOLARSHIPS 2024/2025

The winners of the eighth edition of the Mattia Dall’Aglio Awards are:

  • Vivian Otoibhi Osagie, first-year Nursing student, shot putter, silver medallist at the 2024 Italian U23 Athletics Championships.
  • Marco Butturini, second-year Master's student in Mechanical Engineering, elite Serie A rugby player, bronze medallist at the 2024 CNU with the CUS MORE Rugby Sevens team.
  • Matteo Grisendi, first-year Master's student in Mechatronic Engineering, member of the CUS MORE basketball team, bronze medallist at the 2024 CNU.
  • Alessandro Pasquinucci, third-year student in Civil and Environmental Engineering, gold medallist in the 5000m and bronze medallist in the 1500m at the 2024 CNU with CUS MORE.

The Mattia Dall’Aglio Award was established in memory of student-athlete Mattia Dall’Aglio, who passed away in August 2017. It is funded each year by his family and a group of friends. Each Mattia Dall’Aglio scholarship is worth €2,500 and is awarded to a maximum of four students in the Unimore Sport Excellence programme who demonstrate outstanding academic and sporting achievements.

The winners of the fifth edition of the Luciano Landi Awards 2023/24 are:

  • Francesca Maniero, fifth-year student in the single-cycle Master's Degree in Law, Italian roller hockey champion (Senior Women's Italian Cup, Championship, and Super Cup), called up for the Senior Women's World Championship in Novara (Italy), participant in the Women's Euroleague, fourth place at the Senior Women's World Championship in Novara (Italy).
  • Federica Pansini, student in the Psychological Science Techniques degree programme, Italian U23 champion in the 800 metres indoor and outdoor, previously bronze medallist in the 4x400 relay at both the U20 World and European Championships in 2021.

The Luciano Landi Award was established by the Landi Family in the 2020/21 academic year in memory of the Sports Technical Director Luciano Landi, who passed away prematurely in August 2020. It funds two scholarships of €2,500 each for students in the Unimore Sport Excellence programme who demonstrate excellence in both academic and sporting fields. Luciano Landi, coach and sports director of the "Amici del Nuoto" association of the Modena Fire Brigade, helped many young swimmers achieve significant results nationally and internationally, including Mattia Dall’Aglio.

The winner of the fourth edition of the SAU Group Award is:

  • Giulia Bozzoli, student in the Health Assistance degree programme, silver medallist at the 2024 CNU with the CUS MORE women’s volleyball team.

The SAU Group Award was established thanks to the generous support of this Modena-based company, aimed at recognising a deserving participant in the Unimore Sport Excellence programme.
