Professor Cecilia Robustelli, from the Department of Studies on Language and Culture at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, has been appointed by the College of Academicians of the Accademia della Crusca, which met in an extraordinary session, as one of 11 new Italian corresponding academicians of the prestigious institution.
"I am grateful to the Accademia della Crusca for this appointment as an Academician, which I consider a generous recognition of my research in the field of Italian linguisticsranging from historical syntax and European language policy (also in my role as the Academy's delegate to the European Federation of National Institutions for Language [ www.efnil.org ], of which I am now Vice-President) to studies on sexist language and, more broadly, inclusive language. This is an area where my academic commitment meets my civic engagement in support of cultural change, for which language is a powerful instrument, said Professor Robustelli. In my twenty-five years of service at the Department of Linguistic and Cultural Studies at our university, she continued, I have always sought to enrich my teaching with the outcomes of my research and international experiences, in order to foster scientific reflection on language and to encourage a conscious use of language among the hundreds of students who have attended my coursesamong which Id like to mention Language, Linguistics and Genderand who have enriched me in turn with their lively and insightful observations. For this reason, I would like to share the satisfaction of this recognition with them.
