A Dialogue on the European Union with the Head of Eurobarometer at the Department of Law

On Wednesday, 2 April 2025, at 10:15 AM, Room B at the Unimore Department of Law (Via San Geminiano, 3) will host the event “Dialogue on the European Union”, featuring Roberto Santaniello, a European Commission official and Head of Eurobarometer.

The initiative is organised by the Department of Law at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, along with the Office for European Projects, International Relations, and Coordination of Complex Projects – Europe Direct Modena at the Municipality of Modena, in collaboration with the Unimore Centre for Documentation and Research on the European Union.

Eurobarometer is the official EU survey tool, used by the European Commission, the European Parliament, and other EU institutions to regularly track public opinion across Europe on matters relating to the European Union, as well as attitudes towards political and social issues. More broadly, Eurobarometer provides high-quality, relevant data for researchers, the media, and the public in Europe and beyond on topics such as the conflict in Ukraine, key public concerns, and migration.

The event will be introduced by Elio Tavilla, Director of the Department of Law, and moderated by Marco Gestri, Professor of EU Law and Director of the CDE.

Roberto Santaniello will encourage an interactive discussion with students, academics, and the public on the state of the European Union and the key issues currently facing it—at a time of growing uncertainty and unprecedented challenges for the EU and its member states.

Following the event, Roberto Santaniello will take part in the podcast EuZONE, a series produced by Radio FSC-Unimore in collaboration with Europe Direct Modena.

Roberto Santaniello has written several essays and notable books offering a historical perspective on European integration, as well as an overview of its institutions, powers, and decision-making processes. His latest book, “The European Union Explained for Young People” (Brioschi, 2024), will be presented on Tuesday, 1 April, at Galleria Europa, Piazza Grande 17, Modena.
