An Event at Unimore on Violence Against Women – 1 April

The GLIC – Gender, Language, and Communication Laboratory at Unimore is hosting a public discussion, coordinated by Professor Cecilia Robustelli, based on the book "Violence Against Women" (Giappichelli, 2024). The event will feature the book’s authors: criminal lawyers Rossella Benedetti, Ilaria Boiano, Marta Cigna, and M. Teresa Manente from the Differenza Donna Association. It will take place on Tuesday, 1 April, at 3:45 PM at the Department of Linguistic and Cultural Studies (Room B1.6, Largo Sant’Eufemia 19, Modena).

The discussion will focus on key issues such as violence against women, domestic violence, and secondary victimisation. It will also examine how language shapes the communication of violence, revealing deep-rooted cultural resistance linked to patriarchal traditions that continue to perpetuate gender stereotypes and prejudices.

The event is supported by the Laboratory of Ethno-Anthropology (LEA), the Interdepartmental Research Centre on Discrimination and Vulnerability (CRID), and the University’s Equal Opportunities Committee (CUG). It is part of the teaching activities for the Language, Discourse, and Gender course, taught by Professor Cecilia Robustelli.

Founded in 1989, the Differenza Donna Association aims to expose, understand, combat, prevent, and eliminate gender-based violence. It carries out a wide range of initiatives, drawing on the expertise of professionals from various fields, including psychologists, psychotherapists, social workers, doctors, educators, lawyers, journalists, sociologists, IT specialists, and anthropologists, all actively engaged in the project.
