International Economics and Marketing – Bringing Business Experience into Education

The three-year Bachelor's Degree in International Economics and Marketing at the Department of Economics "Marco Biagi" at Unimore is designed with a strong focus on internationalisation and the development of skills applicable in complex, global economic contexts. The curriculum blends economics, law, and quantitative disciplines with advanced marketing and communication studies, supported by intensive language training, including two compulsory foreign languages, one of which is English at an advanced level.

In the Business-to-Business and Digital Marketing programme, led by Prof. Gianluca Marchi, Full Professor of Business Economics and Management, a dedicated module has been introduced in collaboration with Confindustria Emilia Area Centro. This initiative offers students direct engagement with entrepreneurs from the local industrial sector, bridging theory and practice in industrial marketing.

This academic year, the course welcomed guest lecturers Elena Sabattini, CEO of Tecnostudi Comunicazione, and Pietro Brighetti, CEO and Creative Director of Mediamorphosis, who shared their expertise through dedicated sessions..

The Business-to-Business and Digital Marketing programme, held in the second semester of the second year, aims to develop a critical understanding of business-to-business transactions. It combines a strategic approach to industrial marketing with an in-depth analysis of widely used digital tools.

The involvement of industry professionals is a key feature of the programme, reinforcing its interdisciplinary and applied nature. The degree prepares students for careers in export management, international marketing, digital marketing, and business analysis, equipping them to work in dynamic, multicultural environments.

"Universities provide students with robust analytical frameworks to interpret market dynamics, understand their mechanisms, anticipate trends, and, when necessary, propose alternatives," explains Professor Gianluca Marchi . "Theory serves as a critical tool, allowing students to explore the market with depth and an open mind. In this context, direct interaction with professionals operating in complex environments becomes a valuable learning opportunity. Their experience fosters a meaningful exchange between theory and practice, where knowledge and application enhance one another. I would like to extend my sincere thanks to the two guest lecturers and to Confindustria Emilia Area Centro for their support. Their contributions enabled a genuine dialogue, creating a fertile space for learning where practice and conceptualisation complemented each other without overlap."

"In a region with a strong manufacturing tradition like ours, investing in education and strengthening ties between universities and businesses is crucial to meeting the challenges of innovation," adds Tiziana Ferrari, General Director of Confindustria Emilia Area Centro. "The integration of digital skills with industrial expertise is key to maintaining competitiveness in international markets."
