Seminars and screenings on Latin America and Palestine, from 11 to 13 March

The programme includes a series of initiatives on memories of violence and social justice, activism, independent cinema and applied anthropology in the two different contemporary scenarios, with discussions between anthropologists, film makers and scholars of cinema and semiotics.

Specifically, on 11 March, at 6 p.m., at the Ovest Lab there will be a commented screening of the film ‘Viva il Peru’ (Adriano Zecca 1974), on 12 March (9 a.m.) at the Department of Linguistic and Cultural Studies the film ‘Chibol. Vite di scarti’ will be screened at the Department of Linguistic and Cultural Studies, followed by a debate on “Applied Anthropology and the Indigenous Question in Latin America”, coordinated by Prof. Stefano Boni of Unimore, while in the afternoon (2.00 p.m. - Aula B04) there will be a discussion on “Multiple and Digital Visualities in Contemporary Anthropological Research”, coordinated by Prof. Selenia Marabello of Unimore.

The closing day, 13 March, will be dedicated to ‘Independent Cinema and Palestine’, with a double appointment: at 2 p.m. at the Department of Linguistic and Cultural Studies (Room B04) and at 6 p.m. at Ovest Lab.  The two sections will be coordinated respectively by Prof. Alessandra Gribaldo and Dr. Rosa Barotsi, both from Unimore. Some of the screenings will be in the original language with English subtitles.

The days, which will host researchers from both national and international backgrounds, have seen the collaboration between two projects: ‘IMFilm - Cinema Beyond the Industry: Contemporary Minoritised Italian Film Culture’ (NRRP Next Generation EU - PI: Rosa Barotsi) and ‘EPA Engaged and Public Anthropology Independent Cinema and Applied Anthropological Research’, (PI: Selenia Marabello, in partnership with SIAA- Italian Society of Applied Anthropology, ANPIA Italian National Professional Association of Anthropology, Amigdala Ets and Ovest Lab).
