On 6 and 7 February an international conference organised by the PhD Programme in Humanities Technology and Society together with the University of Seville

On Thursday 6 and Friday 7 February 2025 , the Facultad de Derecho of the University of Seville will host the first appointment of the cycle New Technologies, Ethics, Culture and Society, involving the PhD in Humanities, Technology and Society (Unimore, Fondazione Collegio San Carlo, Almo Collegio Borromeo) and the PhD Programme in Law (Universidad de Sevilla).
The event, which is part of a framework agreement between the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia and the University of Seville and, more specifically, within the framework of an agreement between the CRID - Interdepartmental Research Centre on Discrimination and Vulnerability and the Facultad de Derecho of the University of Seville signed in February 2022, will take place annually and will always be held in February.
The Collegio San Carlo in Modena and the Facultad de Derecho (Seville) are, in alternate years, the venues for the conference that will feature PhD students from the two locations.
The conference is an opportunity for PhD students and lecturers from the two PhD programmes to discuss issues concerning new technologies, the opportunities they bring, but also the challenges they pose on an ethical, social and cultural level.
The event is also an opportunity for PhD students to present the progress of their research projects, but also a forum to present thoughts, research and studies carried out in parallel with their PhD project.
In addition to PhD students, the series will also include the participation of professors, researchers belonging to the teaching boards of two PhD programmes and/or the invitation of external scholars.
The first day of the conference will be opened at 10.15 a.m. by Prof. Fernando H. Llano Alonso, Dean of the Facultad de Derecho of the University of Seville and Prof. Gianfrancesco Zanetti, scientific coordinator of the Fondazione Collegio San Carlo, Modena.
From 11 a.m. onwards, a panel discussion will start on "Artificial intelligence and digitisation: risks, opportunities and challenges for social sustainability ", which will include contributions from six PhD students, three of them from the HTS - Humanities, Technology and Society: Piero Sansò, Claudia Severi and Eugenio Capitani.
After a short break, at 4 p.m., we will resume talking about "Artificial intelligence and digitisation: enhancing cultural heritage" , again with six contributions from PhD students coordinated by Prof. Matteo Rinaldini of Unimore, coordinator of the HTS PhD Programme, with the involvement of three other PhD students of the PhD Programme in Humanities, Technology and Society: Caterina Zamboni, Matilde Operato and Giuseppe Chiavaroli.
On the second day, starting at 10.30 a.m., a Forum of PhD students will be held, which will allow for a comparison of different PhD experiences and possible perspectives of collaboration: the coordination will be entrusted to Prof. Fernando H. Llano Alonso (Dean of the Facultad de Derecho of the University of Seville) and Prof. Thomas Casadei (Director of CRID, Unimore), currently Visiting Professor at the University of Seville.
The scientific direction of the conference is entrusted to Prof. Immaculada Marín Alonso (University of Seville, Vice-Dean for Teaching Quality and Innovation), Prof. Fernando H. Llano Alonso and Prof. Gianfrancesco Zanetti.
Scientific Coordination is by Prof. Matteo Rinaldini (Unimore - HTS PhD Coordinator) and Prof. Thomas Casadei (Unimore - CRID Director).
