Online the January 2025 issue of FocusUnimore

The editorial of this issue, written by Prof. Gianfrancesco Zanetti (Professor of Philosophy of Law at the Dept. of Law and Scientific Coordinator of the Fondazione San Carlo) is dedicated to the close collaboration between the University and the Fondazione San Carlo: among the various activities and initiatives, particular attention is devoted to to the experience of Radio FSC Unimore, a venue of broad and free expression for the protagonism, creativity and talents of students in the field of communication and the use of new technologies, as well as to the PhD Programme in Humanities Technology and Society (HTS), now in its second cycle.
Set up in the wake of the PhD Programme in Humanities, this project, in which the Almo Collegio Borromeo of Pavia also participates in a partnership involving the three institutions, promotes activities aimed at training a research profile of a high academic level, but which also represents added value for realities outside the university world such as public administration, the business world, the third sector, the school system, cultural institutions
FocusUnimore devotes ample space in this January issue to post-graduate higher education, focusing on two other PhD schools: the PhD Programme in Legal Sciences , the result of the synergy between Unimore and the University of Parma, and the PhD Programme in Computer and Data Science, a window on technological and social innovation.
In terms of international relations, the magazine presents the initiative that led Unimore to enter into a new collaboration between the Department of Surgical, Medical, Dental and Morphological Sciences on Transplantology, Oncology and Regenerative Medicine and the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York. The project - coordinated by Prof. Francesca Farnetani - aims to develop joint research programmes, facilitate the exchange of students, PhD students and dermatology specialists and focus on non-invasive diagnostics and monitoring of skin cancers such as atopic dermatitis and alopecia.
The University's constant commitment to international issues is also demonstrated by programmes such as Erasmus+INSIGHT - Inclusive teaching methods in higher education, which involves 12 partners from six European countries and aims to improve teaching and learning processes to guarantee equal educational opportunities for students with disabilities or specific learning disorders (SLD) by creating welcoming and inclusive environments, and by the work that Unimore is developing on the side of promoting peace and diplomatic resolution as the only means of dealing with international crises and conflicts: in this regard, the University has set up a PhD scholarship in Peace Studies, the first national and European research programme in this field, focusing on"Educating for Peace and Migration".
The future is based on history and in this area too, Unimore is leading the way through the 'Enzo Ferrari' Department of Engineering, in collaboration with Fondazione AGO Modena Fabbriche Culturali and the Municipality of Modena, and enhancing Modena's archives as instruments of knowledge and cultural exchange through a series of events that will end on 12 March 2025.
The celebrations of the 850th anniversary of the founding of the University in Modena will see a new event dedicated to the memory of a prominent figure in the academic community who made a significant contribution to Italian chemistry: Prof. Ulderico Segre. On 11 February 2025, the distinguished scholar will be remembered by the Department of Chemical and Geological Sciences through a day dedicated to him and the screening of the documentary MOLECOLES, directed by his son Andrea Segre.
Focus Unimore - whose Editor-in-Chief is Prof. Thomas Casadei, the University's Communication Delegate - also dwells on the growth of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia programmes taught at the Mantua site: the latter in 2024 has experienced a period of strong growth in the Computer Engineering programme, which has recorded +41%, and in the new Green and Sustainable Chemistry programme, which has exceeded the initial target of 15 students.
The main initiatives already launched in 2024, the Open Days, Digital Girls, European Research Night, Mantova Scienza, will be consolidated in 2025 with the precise aim of further expanding this dynamic academic hub.
Finally, a special space is dedicated to Unimore orienta, the initiative dedicated to the presentation of the Educational Offer for the 2025-2026 academic year (https://www.unimore.it/it/unimoreorienta).
The event is scheduled for Wednesday 19 February 2025 for the streaming presentation of the Bachelor's and Master's Single-Cycle Degrees and on 18 and 19 March 2025 for the streaming presentation of the Master's Degrees.
Lecturers, teaching coordinators, university students, and testimonials from the world of work are available to provide any useful information on Unimore degree programmes.
From 24 to 27 February there will also be Open days in the presence of the Departments: meetings dedicated to the presentation of the Unimore Departments and their degree programmes, employment paths and student services.
In order to participate in the Unimore Orienta initiatives, both in streaming and in presence, booking is required, which is already active at the link: www.unimore.it/it/unimoreorienta.
