In Reggio Emilia, the XVIII National Congress of the Italian Centre for Historical-Educational Research.
The Department of Education and Humanities (DESU) at Unimore, recognised by the Ministry of University and Research as Department of Excellence 2023/2027 at national level, will host the XVIII National Congress of CIRSE - Italian Centre for Historical-Educational Research, from 30 January to 1 February 2025.
The theme of the 2025 edition of the congress which will see over 130 scholars working in the field of historical-pedagogical studies, is Reading, Learning, Understanding the World. Illiteracy and literacy in the history of education'.
On the opening day, the conference will be introduced at 3 p.m. (Aula Magna) by the institutional greetings of Unimore Rector Carlo Adolfo Porro, Department Director Annamaria Contini and the Mayor of the Municipality of Reggio Emilia Marco Massari. This will be followed by speeches by the President of the Istituzione of Preschools and Infant-toddler Centres of Reggio Emilia Federico Ruozzi, the Honorary President of the Reggio Children Foundation Carla Rinaldi, the Director of the Reggio Children Foundation Cristian Fabbi and the President of the Italian Centre for Historical-Educational Research Fulvio De Giorgi.
The meeting will then continue with lectures by Vera Zamagni of the University of Bologna on The historical relevance of literacy in the economic development of the world and by Tom Woodin of the University College of London on Colonial experiments: literacy, mass education and community development at the end of empire.
Parallel working sessions are scheduled throughout Friday 31 January, from 9.30 a.m. to 6.30 p.m., while on the final day of the conference, Saturday, 1st February, the new executive board of CIRSE will be elected for the 2025-2027 term.
