Online the December issue of FocusUnimore

The December issue reflects on some key moments of the 2024 activities: from those promoted by the Technical Table for Student Services (starting with the opportunities of universal civil service) to the strengthening of the Listening and Psychological Counselling Service, which offers even more support for situations of emotional or existential distress to boys and girls at the University through meetings, working groups and the Open G service created in collaboration with psychologists from the Reggio Emilia AUSL. Listening, socialisation and good practices of participation are objectives that Unimore aims to pursue constantly.
It is also time for an assessment on sustainability, a topic of great interest for the academic system as well: Unimore has adopted the Sustainability Report, which focuses on key issues such as the university's identity and governance, the quality of teaching, research, the third mission, the management of environmental resources and the health and wellbeing of staff. This Report not only provides a complete and coherent overview of the University's activities, but is also a first step towards continuous and structured monitoring of sustainability performance, with the aim of constantly improving reporting tools and promoting sustainability in every aspect of the University's work, in the long term.
Secularism, as a founding value of the European Union and of labour relations, is also a core part of Unimore's work, which, thanks to the Observatory on Religious Freedom in the Jurisprudence of the European Court of Human Rights - ORFECT, directed by Prof. Pacillo, has recently drawn up a report on the activities of the European Court of Human Rights. Pacillo, has recently drafted the Modena Charter of Good Practices for the Respect of Religious Freedom in the Workplace: the document provides guidelines for companies to ensure a culture of mutual respect and trust, while supplementing the current Italian legal framework with operational indications for the protection in the workplace of the rights connected to religious practices.
The issue also highlights international collaborations, such as the one led by Prof. Luca Catalano, who is coordinating a group of scholars who are developing intelligent crystalline materials, as well as to new scientific discoveries, such as the one followed by Prof. Giulio Rastelli on a promising molecule for a new therapy for Alzheimer's disease. In-depth studies are dedicated to the most avant-garde laboratories such as the MeltIngLab for the development of electric cars and mobility systems of the future, led by Prof. Giovanni Franceschini, and to national congresses that bring internationally renowned experts to Modena: for example, the XXII Chemistry Day of Emilia-Romagna is currently being held at Unimore.
Also important is the space dedicated to training opportunities available to Unimore students, such as the one that took 42 students on the Electronic Engineering degree programme to visit Infineon Technologies, the Austrian company and world leader in microelectronics.
The issue also includes an article on the success of the 2024 Christmas Concert a gift from the University to the entire academic world and to the city, with the hope that music will always remain a central part of cultural promotion and dialogue with the local area.
