Unimore among the winners of the Ministry of Universities and Research's PRO-BEN call for applications thanks to the PRISMA project

Thanks to the PRISMA project (Promoting Individual and Social Resources in the Academic World University for Wellbeing), Unimore is one of the winners of the PRO-BEN call for applications of the MUR - Ministry of Universities and Research, aimed at promoting psychophysical wellbeing and combating psychological and emotional distress among the student population.
The PRISMA network consists of eight Italian universities: University of Ferrara (Lead Partner), Polytechnic University of Milan, University of Genoa, University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, University of Sassari, University Ca' Foscari Venice, University of Parma and the AFAM Accademia di Belle Arti di Venezia, for a total of over 260,000 students, over 8,000 teachers and over 7,000 technical and administrative staff reached by the project.
PRISMA, coordinated for Unimore by Prof. Loris Vezzali, assisted by Prof. Maristella Scorza, aims to promote and foster the dissemination of psychological, emotional and relational wellbeing in the academic community (university and higher education), with particular attention to the student component, also through prevention and combating conditions and lifestyles that lead to malaise, isolation and social exclusion.
The actions envisaged concern the quali-quantitative survey of the well-being and lifestyles of male and female students of the University and of the Higher Education courses, individual and group activities addressed to the student population for psychological support and addiction prevention, the creation of initiatives and spaces dedicated to raising awareness and training on well-being issues aimed at all the components of the individual academic communities, the territory and the PRISMA network, the identification and adoption of specific tools aimed at expanding and optimising the SCPA (University and AFAM psychological counselling services), also through the inter-University/AFAM exchange and training of specialists.
In line with what is promoted by the PPRISMA project, in 2024, the Unimore Student Services Department strongly expanded its offer for psychological wellbeing in the university, first of all by implementing the psychological help desk system: in addition to the Open G desk in collaboration with psychologists from the Reggio Emilia AUSL (local health authority), which aims to provide solutions to situations of psychological distress due to conditions of high stress, emotional, relational or existential discomfort, two psychological desks have been added to the two psychological counters, to offer individual counselling to male and female students who are experiencing situations of anxiety and uncertainty in the university environment, and to support male and female students who are experiencing discomfort during their study programme and who therefore intend to review their choice of study path (re-orientation) and/or develop a more effective study method.
In addition to the counters, there are cycles of seminars and small group activities on the topics of anxiety and stress, social skills, emotional regulation and study methods. In addition, numerous events on wellbeing understood in a broader sense are planned.
According to Prof. Vezzali, PRISMA has provided a strong impetus for the enhancement of student welfare, already a field of primary importance for Unimore with numerous actions implemented in favour of the student population. With PRISMA, it was possible to further strengthen these actions, acting both on psychological support in the strict sense, and on events and actions on topics of primary interest to students, such as health, study, and sport.
