A seminar at Unimore's DIEF on climate emergencies and environmental change

What are the causes of the floods and landslides that have hit our region hard in recent years? What is the impact of climate change in terms of rising temperatures? And what role does urbanisation play in this context?
These topics, together with others of great relevance, will be the focus of the third edition of the event dedicated to the memory of Marcello Fiorentini, a young researcher who died prematurely in February 2021, to be held on Wednesday 18 December, at 3.30 p.m., at the 'Enzo Ferrari' Department of Engineering in Modena.
During the seminar, Unimore researchers will discuss topics ranging from structure monitoring to hydrogeological instability and climate change. It will be an opportunity to discuss, compare and celebrate research excellence. The event will culminate with the award ceremony of the two winning theses of the third edition of the Degree Awards in memory of Marcello Fiorentini.
In honour of the deceased researcher, Unimore has established degree prizes designed to enhance the work of graduates and master's degree students in Civil and Environmental Engineering. The award-winning theses address issues related to the environment and sustainability, with a particular focus on solutions for the problems of the Modena and Reggio Emilia area, to which Fiorentini was deeply attached.
"Through this seminar, the lecturers of the master's degree programme in civil and environmental engineering intend to remember Marcello Fiorentini, who was first a student and then a young researcher on the issues of hydraulic risk and environmental emergencies. The topics of the seminar represent highly topical issues, in a context of the fragility of the territory and in the light of ongoing climate change, which have always characterised Marcello's research activities,'commented Prof. Francesco Mancini, President of the Master's Degree Programme in Civil and Environmental Engineering.
