The Scientist and the Dinosaur conference on Wednesday 20 November in Modena

Dinosaur time in Modena is coming up thanks to the exhibition Natural Unnatural. Dinosaurs and other creatures, organised by Fondazione AGO with the participation of Unimore's Museum System, and the conference dedicated to The Scientist and the Dinosaur.
Fossil discoveries and alleged dinosaur sightings in the 19th century constituted a breaking point between religious faith and scientific discoveries. At the time, some geological theories tried to reconcile the new geological knowledge with the biblical account of the universal flood, but the phenomenon of extinctions seemed to challenge the creationist view of the world, according to which every living thing was created as it appears today. Based on alleged sightings and ancient legends, there were those who speculated on the possible survival of dinosaurs and plesiosaurs in remote forests and oceans, giving rise to a debate whose consequences culminated in a mad brontosaurus hunt in the eighties of the 20th century.
Providing clarity at the conference will be the science communicator Lorenzo Rossi, a lecturer on the history of zoology, ethnozoology and the relationship between science and pseudoscience. The appointment is scheduled for Wednesday 20 November 2024 at 6 p.m. in theAula Magna of the Department of Law (via San Geminiano, 3) in Modena.
