Conference on cyber attacks on local companies in Modena

In 2023, cyber attacks against Italian companies increased by 625% compared to 2022. A growing trend also in the current year. These are the numbers released by the National Cybersecurity Agency (NCA) which, at the beginning of July, also published for the first time data on cyber attacks that occurred just in May in our country. The total number of reported incidents is 283. Compared to the previous month, the increase is 148%.
These issues will be the focus of the conference Cyber attacks on companies - A phenomenon to be understood in order to know how to defend oneself , scheduled for Thursday 14 November, from 3 p.m., at the Chamber of Commerce of Modena.
"This event is part of the ongoing training and technology transfer activities on IT security issues that Unimore has been carrying out for years. It is therefore important to create and maintain a lively channel of communication between companies of all kinds and the University, in order to build virtuous collaborations capable of bringing about a concrete improvement in the cybersecurity of an entire territory, comments Prof. Mirco Marchetti of Unimore.
The event Cyber Attacks on Companies in Modena will analyse the state of IT security for companies, with a specific focus on companies in the province of Modena.
Representatives of national law enforcement agencies, including Prefect Raffaele Grassi (Deputy Chief of Police, Central Director of the Criminal Police), Ivano Gabrielli (National Director of the Postal Police and Cyber Security) and Luca Masini (Public Prosecutor of Modena) will discuss the activities and evolution of cybercrime.
Mauro Cicognini (Clusit) and Antonio Apruzzese (lecturer at the Department of Physics, Informatics and Mathematics) will present the main results of the research conducted by the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, in collaboration with the Chamber of Commerce of Modena and Clusit - the Italian Association for Information Security. The data obtained analysing the answers provided anonymously by more than 500 companies in the province of Modena represent the real state of companies in our territory, and highlight the frequency of cyber attacks and some technical and organisational problems. The results highlight the role of large companies, the true drivers of securing entire production chains.
Paolo Boni (Managing Director of INALCA S.p.A.) and Andrea Ruscitti (IT Manager IRIS Ceramica Group) will illustrate the activities being undertaken to prevent cyber attacks.
To conclude, Mauro Andreolini (Researcher at the Department of Physics, Informatics and Mathematics) and Mirco Marchetti (Associate Professor at the Department of Engineering Enzo Ferrari) will talk about how a cyber attacker sees a typical SME, and the importance of management and processes, even more than technologies, for IT security in the company.
The speeches will be moderated by Beppe Boni, journalist and former Co-Director of Il Resto del Carlino.
