Introduced the new Unimore Department Directors for the academic three-year period 2024-2027

Unimore presented the new Heads of Departments who will officially take office on 1 November 2024. The press conference was attended by the Magnificent Rector, Prof. Carlo Adolfo Porro, the Director General, Eng. Luca Chiantore, the outgoing President of the Conference of Directors, Prof. Lorenzo Bertucelli, together with the Directors-designate and other representatives of the University.
With Law 240/2010, the figure of the Department Director assumed a central function in the organisational framework of Italian universities. The Director not only coordinates teaching and research activities, but also plays an administrative and management role within the department. This made it possible to bring together, under a single leader, tasks previously divided between the Dean of the Faculty and other figures.

- Annamaria Contini - Department of Education and Human Sciences (confirmed)

- Francesco Leali - Enzo Ferrari Department of Engineering
- Caterina Longo - Surgical, Medical, Dental and Morphological Sciences Department with Transplantology, Oncology and Regenerative Medicine interests
- Davide Mazzi - Department of Studies on Language and Culture

Also present were the Directors who, for technical reasons related to their taking over during mandates already underway, will end their mandate on 31 October 2025:
- Tommaso Fabbri - Marco Biagi Department of Economics
- Carmelo Elio Tavilla - Law Department
The Department Director is the key figure entrusted with the overall management of the department's academic and scientific activities and brings teaching and research together under his responsibility. In addition to coordinating internal activities, the Director represents the department in relations with the university and the region and is responsible for promoting interdisciplinary synergies and innovative projects.
Unimore is organised into disciplinary areas, divided among various departments, which facilitate the integrated management of academic and scientific activities. The Department of Medicine and Surgery and the School of Engineering, on the other hand, represent the connecting structures for the departments in their respective areas and ensure a strategic and coordinated vision of teaching and, as far as Medicine is concerned, of relations with the health service.
The University's departments are divided into areas of competence:
- Humanities: Department of Communication and Economics, Marco Biagi Department of Economics, Department of Education and Human Sciences, Department of Law, Department of Studies on Language and Culture
- Health: Department of Surgery, Medicine, Dentistry and Morphological Sciences with Transplantology, Oncology and Regenerative Medicine Interest, Department of Biomedical, Metabolic and Neural Science, Department of Medical and Surgical Sciences of the Mother, Children, and Adults
- Science: Department of Chemical and Geological Sciences, Department of Physical, Computer and Mathematical Sciences
- Life: Department of Life Sciences
- Technology: Enzo Ferrari Department of Engineering, Department of Sciences and Methods for Engineering
This structure enables Unimore to ensure effective management and extensive collaboration between teaching and research.
"Multidisciplinarity ," emphasises Unimore's Magnificent Rector, Prof. Carlo Adolfo Porro, " is a cardinal principle for Unimore, which finds its greatest strength in the contribution of the various fields of knowledge. Department heads play an essential role in this process, as they ensure that teaching and research are coordinated and developed in a unified vision, open to collaboration between different disciplines."
'The Director ,' continues the Rector, ' does not just manage the activities of his department, but acts as a link between knowledge. It is a role of great responsibility that requires balance, attention to future challenges, and the ability to articulate the University's strategic guidelines by orienting the Department's actions towards concrete and shared objectives that involve both the academic community and the territory."
"The management and administrative aspect of the university ," comments Unimore Director General Luca Chiantore, "is essential for the proper functioning of teaching, research and third mission activities. The main challenge is to ensure that all financial, structural and logistical resources, technology, information and knowledge management, and technical-administrative staff are managed efficiently and transparently to support academic and scientific goals."
"Collaborating with the Department Directors ," continues the Director General, " means ensuring a coordination that allows the integration of operational needs with academic strategies, keeping the University focused on continuous and sustainable growth. TThrough careful and judicious management, we work to create the optimum conditions for the university to fulfil its potential."
