The 9th edition of the course Multidisciplinary approach to the critically ill patient: focus on the military context has closed

The 9th edition of the course Multidisciplinay Approach on the Critically Ill Patient: focus on Military Context was held in the Advanced Training and Medical Simulation Centre (FASiM) of Unimore over the past few days. The 5-day course, born out of the synergy between Unimore, the Military Academy, the University Hospital of Modena and the Modena Fire Brigade Command and addressed to the Second Lieutenants of the 201st Esempio Course of the Military Academy, to the Military Rescue personnel on detachment to the various Armed Forces and to a limited number of doctors in Specialised Training at Unimore, gives particular emphasis to the main extra-hospital pathologies in the context of war.
The novelty of this year's course, which stands out nationally for its high technical-scientific-cultural coefficient, was the introduction of NBCR (Nuclear Biological Chemical Radioactive) and SAF (Speleo Alpino Fluviale) topics, supported by expert personnel from the Provincial Fire Brigade Command of Modena, who followed the trainees in intense simulations at the end of the course.
The course is directed by Prof. Massimo Girardis of Unimore, and coordinated by Alberto Andreotti (Complex Structure of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care of the University Hospital of Modena) with the support of Lorenzo Dall'Ara (Complex Structure of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care of the University Hospital of Modena), Col. Mario Mele (Military Academy) and Lt. Col. Nadir Rachedi (Policlinico Militare Celio of Rome).
In the complex organisation of the course, says Prof. Massimo Girardis , full professor of the Chair of Anaesthesia and Resuscitation at Unimore, more than twenty lecturers from various Italian hospitals and universities were involved: Modena, Turin, Novara, Florence, Siena, Viterbo, Rome. The significant interaction between civil and military health professionals, together with the considerable expertise of the lecturers, made this event the most important course on the intensive management of the critical patient in theatre of war operations nationwide.
During the five-day course, says Alberto Andreotti , course coordinator and certified instructor in High Fidelity Medical Simulation, theoretical and practical activities aimed at the management of the critical patient in the so-called Tactical and Prolonged Field Care phases alternated at a very high pace, using innovative training methods guaranteed by the use of the FASiM centre and partners specialised in simulation training.
Thanks to this course, which will reach its 10th edition next year, says Prof. Michele Zoli, President of the Department of Medicine and Surgery, the FASiM centre and Unimore are to all intents and purposes identified as the reference bodies for healthcare training not only for civilian personnel but also for personnel in charge of the Armed Forces, as well as the only point of integration between civilian and military healthcare in the complex context of the critical patient in a hostile environment.
The jewel in the crown of a complex course that has lasted almost 10 years, the course has recently received the endorsement of several important Army and Carabinieri commands, hosting highly qualified personnel from three different regiments and the Ministry of Defence's Escort Group.
