Unimore Research Night is back
On Friday 27 September, Unimore will once again turn on the spotlight of Research Night, which will shed light on the University's countless study projects. The 2024 edition will see the involvement of around 120 groups, with over 450 researchers exhibiting their studies and fields of research through experiments, laboratories, exhibitions, debates and seminars, in five venues: in Modena at the Complesso San Geminiano, the Complesso San Paolo and the Osservatorio Geofisico, in Reggio Emilia at the Tecnopolo - Reggiane Parco dell'Innovazione and in Mantua at the Fondazione Universitaria - FUM.
This year's theme, which will be the common thread running through all the exhibitions, is Sustainability and the 17 goals of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. All the groups will present their studies and show how the sustainable goals are the backbone of Unimore research, essential elements for true sustainable development.
Among the novelties is the expansion of the exhibition area at the Complesso San Geminiano, which will expand on the two levels of the historic cloister, hosting more than 60 research groups engaged in experiments, conferences and laboratories, from the pharmaceutical world, to engineering, the human, biological and medical sciences, to motor sports with the racing cars built and designed by Unimore students. On the second floor, in particular, there will be a space dedicated to the presence of the Museum and Botanical Garden System where the public will be able to move among some of the exhibits of the museum collections, usually kept inside the Museums, and accompany the youngest children in educational activities.
Also new in Reggio Emilia, where, in addition to the exhibition of more than 30 research groups, there will be a visit to the new premises of Unimore's Digital Pole, which will provide space for the departments of Communication and Economics, Engineering Sciences and Methods, and Medicine.
The last novelty will be in Mantua, where Unimore researchers will be present in the premises of the UniverMantova Foundation - FUM (via Scarsellini, 2) with a dozen research groups related to the teaching offered in the city of Virgilio, such as computer engineering and green chemistry.
Another special feature this year is that Unimore, in all locations, will be proposing research activities linked to UNIgreen - the green European University, the alliance of which our University is a member together with seven other European higher education institutes for the creation of the first European university on the themes of sustainable agriculture, green biotechnology and environmental and life sciences.
In Modena, Research Night will also be hosted by the Cortile del Leccio of the Complesso San Paolo (via Camatta, 16) with the presence of 20 other research groups. Here too, the public will be able to move among chemical and mathematical games and experiments, discover digitised ancient manuals present in the University Library System, and will be able to discover the world of the Living Library and equal opportunities through the CRID - Interdepartmental Research Centre on Discrimination and Vulnerability and Equality Week.
There will also be an opportunity to climb the Torre di Levante of the Military Academy where the Unimore Geophysical Observatory is located (Piazza Roma, 22). Here, meteorologists from the University will reveal the long history of geophysical observations collected and preserved for almost 200 years, as well as show the city of Modena from a unique vantage point.
In Reggio Emilia (where the three-coloured Italian flag was born), as per tradition, the place that will welcome researchers and the interested public will be the Tecnopolo and Reggiane Parco Innovazione (Piazzale Europa,1). Visitors will be able to immerse themselves in demonstrations, interactive lectures, theatrical performances and guided tours of the Reggiane Parco Innovazione where they will be able to enter the laboratories and companies in the area.
As per tradition, Reggio Children will participate in the Reggio Research Night, with a dedicated opening for the event, of the Loris Malaguzzi Centre in Reggio Emilia, which will open its Ateliers to children and young people, teachers, educators, researchers, tourists, citizens, and curious people of all ages. The Malaguzzi Centre will be joined this year for the first time by the venue of the former Mangimificio Caffarri with a visit, animated by meetings and workshops, to the new spaces of the Reggio Children Foundation and Remida, the creative recycling centre. Also at the former Mangimificio Caffarri it will be possible to visit the new premises of the MaMiMò Theatre Centre, which will offer a number of presentations and short theatrical performances with a visit to the new spaces of the Officine Creative Reggiane.
Le Reggiane Parco Innovazione is organising a journey through memory and history in the warehouses of one of the largest Italian factories of the 20th century, as well as its urban transformation from a factory to the city's centre of innovation and research. There will be guided tours, organised by the Municipality of Reggio Emilia, of the Reggiane area and the companies present in the area.
The Modena and Mantua venues of the Research Night will open to the public at 8.00 p.m., while in Reggio Emilia at 7.00 p.m., closing for all at midnight.
Unmissable presences will include: Iren with workshops and games dedicated to children, who will be introduced to the theme of energy efficiency with a permanent educational and informative path created by Iren Smart Solutions and Fondazione Rei on the themes of energy efficiency and innovation; CEPAM, which will bring a 15/20 minute music and dance installation inside the Technopole. New is the participation of TEDx Reggio Emilia, in the TEDx Adventure formula (with the preparation of the researchers who will speak at the Researcher's Corner) and of the Consorzio Parmigiano Reggiano, present both in Reggio Emilia, with an illustration of the production chain and guided tastings, and in Modena where, thanks to the collaboration with Smart Life, it will be possible to talk about falsifications in food and food protection, as well as to observe the art of cutting a wheel of Parmigiano Reggiano with a tasting.
