Unimore supports the play “No Doubt,” in Mantua Sept. 28

Is it possible to talk about safety at work in a non-traditional way? For the third year running, Unimore is supporting the theatrical performance “Nessun dubbio”, scheduled Saturday 28 September at 10 a.m., at the cloister of the UniverMantova Foundation ( via Scarsellini 2, Mantua), which, in an engaging way, leads to the discovery of the different causes of accidents at work, questioning certainties to help the audience think critically.

Prof. Federico Ricci, an occupational psychologist, author of the show and president of AiNTS - the Italian Non-Technical Skill Association, explains the reasons for this initiative as follows: “As in a dinner with a crime, 12 characters, randomly chosen, accept the challenge to investigate the real causes of a fatal accident. The decision seems all too simple, the dead worker is to blame, but suddenly something unexpected happens and nothing is the same as before.”

From May 2022 to May 2024, 14 performances of the show have already taken place: Sant’Ilario d’Enza (RE), Milano, Reggio Emilia, Teatro dei Segni in Modena, Teatro Comunale of Carpi (MO), Imola (BO), Como, Auditorium Beccaria in Modena (2 performances), Teatro Bibiena in Mantova, Cavriago (RE); San Marino di Carpi (MO), Cinema Teatro Michelangelo in Modena, Boretto (RE). The second time in Mantua for “Nessun dubbio”, after the success of October 2023.

We felt it was our duty to propose this show, set in a research laboratory, as one of our university's public engagement initiatives,” says Professor Annalisa Bargellini of the Department of Biomedical, Metabolic and Neuroscience, who is in charge of the project. “In line with the plot of the show, we will ask the participating classes to answer a questionnaire, as part of an effectiveness study aimed at improving safety at work.

The show, offered free of charge to schools taking part in the initiative, is produced by Pericles APS, promoted by Centro Tecnologico (a consortium of companies and service hubs for training and safety in the workplace), with the free concession of spaces by the UniverMantova Foundation, as well as the patronage of the Municipality of Mantua and ATS Valpadana.

“The Municipality of Mantua is grateful to Unimore for offering high school students this theatrical performance centred on the theme of safety in the workplace. - says Councillor Adriana Nepote - A crucial issue today, but one that speaking to these young people speaks to the workers of the future, helping to spread awareness and the demand that work be done safely. Theatre is an innovative and engaging language that is an excellent channel to initiate this dialogue and to encourage young people to strengthen and embrace a culture that sees work as a context for individual and collective growth and protection.

Topicality, suspense, thriller, just the right amount of humour and a lot of audience involvement are the winning aspects of “Nessun dubbio”. It is a show that is able to defy the investigative skills of the most attentive audience, but also to surprise and seduce those who are less knowledgeable about the topics covered.

“ATS Valpadana, one of whose institutional tasks is to protect health and safety in the workplace, is sponsoring this initiative,” emphasises Alberto Righi, Head of the Prevention and Safety in the Workplace Service, Mantua territorial office, “which, in an innovative and particularly involving manner, aims to increase attention to the issue of safety in the workplace among students, who represent the workers of tomorrow.”

The solution to the case will drop unexpectedly, along with the curtain, between the seats of the audience in the auditorium. At that time, everyone will be able to assess the outcome of their own personal investigation and reconsider the oversimplifications of which we are often unwitting victims.
