2026 Nencki Prize awarded to Professor Andrea Cossarizza

The Polish Academy of Sciences recently hosted the official ceremony for the presentation of the Nencki Prize, a prestigious accolade awarded to internationally renowned scientists for outstanding contributions to the field of biomedical sciences.
The 2026 Nencki Prize was conferred upon Professor Andrea Cossarizza of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia. Professor Cossarizzas scientific career, which began over 40 years ago, is distinguished by many vital contributions to the study of the immune system across various pathological conditions. These include HIV/AIDS, SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19 infection, sepsis, neurodegenerative diseases, and oncological pathologies. His work is also noted for research into the role of immunosenescence in both physiology and disease, as well as the study of innovative immunotherapeutic approaches. Of particular significance are his contributions to the development and application of advanced flow cytometry methodologies in immunological research and cell biology.
Receiving the Nencki Prize is a great honour for me, stated Professor Andrea Cossarizza of Unimore. This recognition highlights the work carried out over all these years alongside colleagues and collaborators at our University. It bears witness to the importance of immunological research in understanding and addressing the major contemporary biomedical challenges.
The ceremony took place in Warsaw at the CN Conference Hall of the Nencki Institute of Experimental Biology.
