Seminar Series on Phytopathology and Sustainable Agriculture with Visiting Professor Set Pérez Fuentealba

The University of Modena and Reggio Emilia is welcoming Professor Set Pérez Fuentealba, a member of faculty at the Universidad de OHiggins in Chile, as part of its Visiting Professor Programme.
The initiative includes a seminar series entitled Advancing Sustainable Agriculture: Integrated Approaches in Phytopathology for Crop Protection and Global Health, focusing on agricultural sustainability, plant pathology and global health. The Visiting Professor will be hosted by Professor Davide Giovanardi, a lecturer in Plant Pathology in the Department of Life Sciences.
Professor Set Pérez Fuentealba, an Agricultural Engineer (UFRO, Chile) and PhD (University of Bologna, Italy), explains Professor Davide Giovanardi of Unimore, has distinguished himself in the field of agricultural sciences and in higher education, collaborating with numerous Chilean universities and conducting advanced research aimed at developing resilient agricultural practices and innovative technologies. His internationally oriented studies and research are characterised by an original and rigorous approach to the management of plant diseases, with particular attention to safeguarding agricultural resources, preserving ecological balance, and promoting sustainable agroecosystems across diverse cropping systems.
The seminars will take place at 2:00 pm in Room 1.3 of the Besta Pavilion at the San Lazzaro Campus in Reggio Emilia on 13, 15, 20, 22 and 27 April 2026. Topics will include plant health monitoring, the One Health approach, emerging diseases in agriculture, and integrated strategies for crop disease control.
Open to students, doctoral candidates, researchers and academic staff, the initiative offers a valuable opportunity for learning and international exchange on key challenges for the future of sustainable agriculture and food security, at a time when globalisation is making plant health issues increasingly complex and interconnected.
