PhD Day 2026: Doctoral Research at the Heart of Development and Innovation

The aim of PhD Day 2026 is to highlight the strategic role of doctoral research and to foster dialogue between universities, the local area, and the productive sector. The day is devoted to showcasing doctoral research in the fields of engineering and economics.

The event will be held on Friday 10 April 2026, from 9:00 am to 5:30 pm, at Capannone 15c of the Innovation Park (Piazzale Europa, 1) in Reggio Emilia. During the event, promoted by Unimore’s E4E Doctoral School, PhD researchers will present their projects through parallel sessions and poster displays, offering an overview of ongoing activities and their potential impact on the local area.

The programme will open with institutional greetings from Professor Elena Degoli, Director of the Department of Sciences and Methods for Engineering, and Professor Franco Zambonelli, Vice-Rector for Doctoral Studies. This will be followed by a plenary session focused on the University’s perspective on the future of doctoral education , featuring contributions from Professor Monia Montorsi, Vice-Rector for Guidance and Student Affairs; Professor Gianantonio Battistuzzi, Vice-Rector for Teaching; Professor Franco Zambonelli; and Professor Paolo Veronesi, Director of the E4E School.

A series of parallel thematic sessions will follow, designed to encourage interdisciplinary discussion and the sharing of experiences among young researchers, academics, and stakeholders.

After the institutional addresses scheduled for 1:00 pm by the Rector Rita Cucchiara and the Vice-President of the Emilia-Romagna Region, Vincenzo Colla, a plenary session will explore the PhD as a driver of economic development and an opportunity for the local area, with contributions from Alberto Seligardi, Head of the Knowledge Economy Area at Confindustria Reggio Emilia.
