Placement and Equal Opportunities: Two Unimore Initiatives to Strengthen Dialogue with Businesses and the Local Area on 10 and 11 February

As part of its institutional policies, Unimore is organising two opportunities for discussion on 10 and 11 February, dedicated to placement and equal opportunities, with the aim of further strengthening dialogue and collaboration between the University, the productive sector and the local community within an integrated ecosystem approach. The University’s strong results in terms of employability — which consistently place the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia among the top institutions nationally — are the outcome of this shared commitment.

On Tuesday 10 February, from 10:00 at the Modena Technopole, the event Smart Placement Unimore–AI will take place, providing an opportunity to present the SPUIA project, designed to facilitate the matching of talent supply and demand within the regional job market.

Speakers will include Unimore’s Rector, Rita Cucchiara; the Vice President of the Emilia-Romagna Region, Vincenzo Colla; the Deputy Rector for the student community, guidance and the right to education, Prof. Monia Montorsi; the Director of Student Services, Paolo Grasso; the project lead, Prof. Fabrizio Patriarca; and the representative of AlmaLaurea, Eng. Alberto Leone.

At the heart of the project is an innovative AI-based virtual assistant designed to support companies in identifying the profiles best suited to their professional needs, even when the most relevant academic pathway is not immediately obvious. The tool enables the skills and profiles of Unimore graduates to be highlighted and is integrated with AlmaLaurea’s placement system, allowing for targeted job postings and access to CVs.

“The SPUIA project aims to transform the placement process by reducing the mismatch between academic competences and labour market requirements through the use of artificial intelligence. By matching degree programmes, students and professional opportunities, we want to build a new channel of dialogue between Unimore and the productive fabric of the region, in order to enhance our students’ employability and support innovation processes within local businesses,” commented Prof. Bernardo Balboni, Rector’s Delegate for Career Guidance and Placement.

Building on this operational dimension, on Wednesday 11 February, to mark the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, AlmaLaurea and Unimore will host a conference presenting the Second Thematic Gender Report on graduates, from 10:00 to 12:30 at the Department of Law (Conference Hall).

Among the speakers will be Unimore’s Rector, Rita Cucchiara; the CRUI President, Laura Ramaciotti; the President of AlmaLaurea, Ivano Dionigi; and AlmaLaurea’s Director, Marina Timoteo, who will present the Report.

The event will offer an up-to-date overview of university pathway choices, academic careers and transitions into the labour market, with particular attention to gender dynamics. Unimore will bring together key stakeholders from across the region — universities, schools, businesses and institutions — with the aim of promoting joint action to challenge stereotypes and create favourable conditions for cultural and professional development pathways grounded in the recognition of individual talent and inclination.

“Working in scientific fields has led me to regard data as an essential decision-making tool. AlmaLaurea’s Gender Report provides a valuable snapshot on which to base strategic choices and reinforce our commitment to dismantling stereotypes that still hinder the full recognition of those who choose Unimore for their education and our region for their professional growth,” stated Prof. Elena Bassoli, Rector’s Delegate for Equal Opportunities.

Taken together, these two initiatives depict a University actively committed to creating environments and tools capable of making the transition from education to employment more effective, equitable and informed.
