According to the ranking compiled by Expertscape.com, Caterina Longo, Full Professor at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia and Director of the Dermatology Unit at the University Hospital of Modena, is ranked among the worlds leading experts in the diagnosis and treatment of melanoma.
The American website, developed by researchers at the University of North Carolina, bases its rankings on the scientific output of specialists across different areas of medicine, with a particular focus on publications from the last ten years, the quality of the journals and the authors position within each article.
I am proud of this achievement, which I wish to share with the group of researchers I work with every day, comments Caterina Longo. I lead a highly skilled team made up of hospital dermatologists, university academics, biologists, nurses, laboratory technicians and data managers who support the conduct of clinical trials and ensure that all required standards are met. Over the years, we have carried out important studies aimed at developing robust diagnostic criteria using advanced technologies such as dermoscopy and the innovative in vivo confocal laser microscopy, which are increasingly effective in the early detection of melanoma, a skin cancer that is highly aggressive in its metastatic stage and whose incidence is rapidly increasing.
Professor Longo also extends her thanks to the AUSLIRCCS of Reggio Emilia, where many clinically relevant research activities have been conducted.
Expertscape covers all areas of medicine and regularly updates its rankings of universities, hospitals and experts at global, European and national level, using the number of publications and citations as the main parameters. Professor Longos Impact Factor and H-indexkey indicators of scientific outputare particularly high, also in relation to her chronological and academic age. She is also a member of the working groups responsible for drafting the clinical guidelines of AIOM (Italian Association of Medical Oncology) and EADO (European Academy of Dermato-Oncology), and serves as Secretary General of the International Dermoscopy Society.
