Military Academy and Unimore: new pathways approved for the Degree Programme in Strategic Sciences
The Military Academy hosted the meeting of the Board of the Degree Programme in Strategic Sciences of the Department of Law at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, held in the presence of the Rector of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, Professor Rita Cucchiara, and Major General Stefano Messina, Commandant of the Military Academy.
The Board approved an amendment to the academic regulations of the Degree Programme for the 20262027 academic year, for the benefit of those attending the military institute. In particular, starting from the next academic year, two new curricular tracks will be introduced within the same Degree Programme, intended for Officer Cadets of the various branches: one with a philosophical focus and one with a managerial focus, the latter aimed at Officer Cadets of the Transport and Materials Corps.
On the sidelines of the event, Professor Cucchiara highlighted how the collaboration between Unimore and the Military Academy represents a structural partnership, built over more than twenty-five years of joint work, with a stable presence involving around 700 female and male cadets of the Army and the Carabinieri across our programmes, starting with Strategic Sciences and, more broadly, in areas that also include medicine, engineering and law. For several months now, since the summer, we have been asked to develop a curricular proposal within Strategic Sciences capable of addressing philosophical and ethical issues that today carry decisive weight. The new philosophical track, together with the managerial one, strengthens the quality of Officer Cadets education and opens up a field of work that is valuable for the entire academic community: issues such as the ethics of technologies, dual use, and the relationship between natural and digital knowledge require appropriate cultural tools and can become a driving force for teaching and interdisciplinary initiatives also aimed at civilian students.
The new curricular tracks further strengthen the well-established relationships of educational and scientific-cultural cooperation, ongoing for several decades, between the Military Academy and the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia.
The continuous and fruitful cooperation between the two institutions has made it possible to constantly adapt the organisation and planning of the Degree Programme in Strategic Sciences, belonging to the class of degrees in defence and security sciences (L/DS), to the training requirements of the Italian Army.
