Professor Rita Cucchiara in the delegation of 20 Italian rectors accompanying Minister Bernini for the 14th ChinaItaly Week of Science, Technology and Innovation

Unimore aims to present itself increasingly on the global stage and to build academic relationships with an international outlook. With this objective in mind, the Rector, Professor Rita Cucchiara, has undertaken her first official mission abroad, choosing as a key destination the Zhejiang Sci-Tech University (ZSTU) in Hangzhou. The visit marks an important step in the Universitys internationalisation strategy for the next six years, with the aim of expanding scientific connections and fostering global opportunities for students, lecturers and researchers.
Welcomed by President Professor Chen Wenxing, the Rector visited the campus and the historical museum dedicated to silk production, a symbol of ZSTUs excellence in textile engineering. The meetings made it possible to identify potential areas of collaboration, including student exchanges, joint teaching activities, and research projects on humanoid robotics, applied artificial intelligence, new materials and advanced technologies for the textile sector.
ZSTU has an academic structure similar to that of Unimore, with strengths in engineering, IT, robotics, life sciences, economics and medicine. This disciplinary affinity made the encounter particularly promising for the development of joint programmes and international academic projects.
The mission took place in Hangzhou, one of Chinas most dynamic technological hubs, often referred to as the Chinese Silicon Valley. The city is home to emerging deep-tech companies such as DeepSeek, Unitree Robotics, Game Science, BrainCo, Manycore Tech and Deep Robotics, which are reshaping the innovation landscape in AI, robotics and digital technologies. Visits to the innovation districts provided first-hand insight into the scientific and industrial directions driving one of the worlds leading ecosystems.
The Rectors mission formed part of the 14th ChinaItaly Week of Science, Technology and Innovation, organised by the Italian Ministry of University and Research, which brought together a delegation of 20 CRUI rectors and Minister Anna Maria Bernini. At the CRUICEAIE Rectors Forum, Professor Cucchiara spoke in the session dedicated to the ethics of artificial intelligence, presenting a paper on the responsibility and sustainability of multimodal generative systems, contributing to the international debate on the scientific and ethical implications of AI.
This mission represents an important step in broadening Unimores international vision, building relationships with leading academic institutions and opening new prospects for collaboration on frontier topics. In the coming months, we will continue discussions with ZSTU to jointly assess the most effective ways to turn these opportunities into concrete initiatives, the Rector stated.
