Professor Andrea Pulvirenti of Unimore appointed to the National Committee for Food Safety
Professor Andrea Pulvirenti, a member of the Department of Life Sciences at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, has been appointed to the National Committee for Food Safety (CNSA), an advisory body established within the Central Budget Office of the Italian Ministry of Health.
The Committee, chaired by the Minister of Health, is tasked with continuously assessing and monitoring food-related risks throughout all stages of the supply chain, with particular attention to innovative processes and products. One of its main objectives is also to strengthen communication with citizens on food safety issues, promoting transparency and informed public engagement.
These are topics I cover in my lectures on Food Microbiology and, in particular, in Quality Management for the Masters degree programme in Food Control and Safety, commented Professor Pulvirenti Another role I will be taking on involves maintaining relations between the Ministry and the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA).
Through the Committees three-year mandate, the Ministry of Health aims to enhance prevention policies by rebalancing current investments 95% of which are presently directed towards treatment and only 5% towards prevention in order to foster a stronger culture of safety and public health focused on preventive protection.
