Unimore hosts the final event of the international conference David Graeber between Anthropology and Philosophy

The Department of Communication and Economics at Unimore will host the closing event of the international conference David Graeber between Anthropology and Philosophy. After previous sessions in Bologna and Ravenna, the conference arrives in Reggio Emilia on Wednesday 8 October to commemorate the American anthropologist and activist, who passed away in 2020.
The day will be structured in two sessions: from 9:00 to 13:00 at the DCE of Unimore (Viale Antonio Allegri 9), and in the afternoon from 14:00 to 17:30 at the Panizzi Library (Via Carlo Farini 3).
The programme will address some of the central ideas in Graebers work: the possibility of reflecting on human nature starting from the concrete forms of social life examined by anthropology and history; the critique of the Western concept of sovereignty in favour of concrete experiences of democracy and self-government; and the reconsideration of the concepts of value, debt and moral obligation that structure social bonds.
Rethinking the foundations of our values, of the economic system, and of our understanding of human nature and political life was the guiding thread of David Graebers intellectual work an endeavour that places him in close dialogue with Spinoza.
The conference is organised by the Centro Sive Natura International Center for Spinozian Studies (ICSS) and the University of Bologna, in collaboration with Unimore, the Municipality of Reggio Emilia, the Municipality of Ravenna, Almagià: Rete di Associazioni Culturali, Goldsmiths, University of London, and the California Institute of Integral Studies.
