Unimore Brings Italy to the Podium at the International Flux Congress in Dublin

Dr Giuditta Smith, researcher at Unimore in the Department of Biomedical, Metabolic and Neural Sciences, was awarded the Travel Award at the international scientific conference Flux in Dublin – the only prize granted to an Italian university throughout the entire conference.

Dr Smith presented a paper on reading screening in Italian primary schools, entitled “Rapid Online Assessment of Reading: Validation of an Italian Reading Screening Tool.” The project, funded by the 2022 PRIN (Projects of Relevant National Interest) fund under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), also involves Unimore researchers Elisa Bassoli (research fellow) and Sendy Caffarra (project coordinator).

The project engaged numerous local primary schools, fostering a collaborative and mutually beneficial relationship. This inspired Dr Smith’s candidacy, who stressed the importance for the scientific community of engaging in cross-disciplinary exchange to ensure that our research maintains its social value and to promote the dissemination of our findings to the wider community.

The Flux Congress in Dublin is the biennial conference organised by the Flux Society (Society for Developmental Cognitive Neuroscience), focusing on the study of human brain cognitive development, bringing together researchers, academics, PhD students, post-docs, and professionals interested in developmental cognitive neuroscience.
