Tommaso Fabbri and Rita Cucchiara Head to Run-Off for the Role of Rector. Second Round Scheduled for Monday 16 June

The run-off for the election of the Rector of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia will take place on Monday 16 June 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. No candidate achieved the absolute majority of weighted votes required by the Electoral Regulations in the first round.

The two candidates progressing to the second round are Rita Cucchiara and Tommaso Fabbri, who received the highest number of votes among the four full professors officially admitted to the race.

The complete results of the first round (in order of preference) are as follows:

  • Tommaso Fabbri: 379.6 weighted votes
  • Rita Cucchiara: 375.3 weighted votes
  • Alessandro Capra: 185.6 weighted votes
  • Giovanna Galli: 170.6 weighted votes

Voter turnout exceeded the required threshold for the vote to be considered valid, with an absolute majority of eligible voters participating. Turnout data, calculated separately for each component of the electoral body, are as follows:

  • Teaching and research staff: 848 voters out of 920 eligible (94.22%)
  • Technical and administrative staff: 625 voters out of 735 eligible (85.03%)
  • Student representatives: 149 voters out of 169 eligible (88.17%)

The elected Rector will serve a six-year term from 1 November 2025 to 31 October 2031. As stipulated by the University Statute, the mandate is not renewable.

Voting was conducted entirely remotely via the U-Vote digital platform, which enabled all University members to cast their votes independently, ensuring both security and confidentiality.
