Professor Antonio La Marca Appointed to the Regional Coordination Committee for Medically Assisted Reproduction in the Lazio Region
Professor Antonio La Marca from Unimore, Director of the Clinic of Gynaecology and Obstetrics at the University Hospital, has been appointed by the Lazio Region as an expert in the Regional Coordination Committee for Medically Assisted Reproduction.
In December 2024, the Lazio Region established the Regional Network for Medically Assisted Reproduction (RRMAR) with the aim of issuing guidelines to ensure the consistent and appropriate provision of services related to MAR across the regional territory, in accordance with the new essential levels of care. The establishment of the Network will enable all accredited public and private entities involved in the Medically Assisted Reproduction pathway to actively contribute towards achieving maximum effectiveness and efficiency through the integration of the various components of service provision.
The coordination of the Regional Network has been entrusted to a group composed of regional administrators, representatives from the involved health authorities, and three experts in the field, including Professor Antonio La Marca. He commented:
“The Regional Network was created to implement targeted measures to protect reproductive health, preserve fertility, and promote the prevention and early diagnosis of infertility. In essence, it aims to provide a better service to patients by anticipating infertility diagnoses, enabling the adoption of effective treatments in appropriate facilities (clinical and organisational appropriateness), and by involving all the technological and human resources currently available within the public regional offering.”
Within the framework of the regional coordination, the objectives will be: to develop care pathways for MAR services; to standardise procedures and services across the region; to plan and monitor the provision of prevention, diagnosis, treatment and care for women and men affected by infertility; to carry out biannual monitoring of the Network and prepare an annual report to be published on the Lazio Region’s website; to draw up an annual improvement plan and to define the training activity plans.
