Call for the Election of the New Rector Published. First Round on 4 June, Possible Run-off on 16 June

The University of Modena and Reggio Emilia has officially launched the process for electing the next Rector. On 17 April, the Dean of the full professors published the decree announcing the elections for the leadership of the University for the 2025–2031 six-year term.

All voting procedures will be conducted entirely electronically, with remote participation via personal devices. This approach, in line with recent electoral experiences and now an established practice at national level, aims to ensure participation, security, and the secrecy of the vote — including for those abroad for study or research purposes during the election period.

The first round of voting is scheduled for Wednesday 4 June 2025, from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM. If no candidate achieves an absolute majority, a run-off will be held on Monday 16 June 2025, during the same hours.

The assembly for the presentation of candidacies — open exclusively to the University’s electoral body — will take place on Thursday 8 May 2025, starting at 9:30 AM, at the Department of Law in Modena, with videoconferencing available at the Reggio Emilia campus. Candidacies must be formally submitted by 12:00 noon on Friday 9 May.

Eligible voters include tenured professors and researchers, fixed-term researchers (with certain exceptions), student representatives on the University’s main governing bodies, and technical-administrative staff.

The Rector must be selected from among full professors currently serving at Italian universities who are able to complete the full term before retirement. The position is for a six-year period, beginning on 1 November 2025 and ending on 31 October 2031. Reappointment is not permitted.

The voting system to be used is the same as that adopted in previous academic elections, based on the U-Vote platform, which enables secure and independent voting from any internet-connected device.

The successful candidate will be formally announced following the completion of the vote count, and, in the event of appeals, once decisions have been made by the competent authorities.
