In todays data-driven economy, where personal data are a fundamental asset for business operations and strategic decision-making, says Professor Simone Scagliarini, Professor of Constitutional and Public Law at the Marco Biagi Department of Economics and Scientific Coordinator of the ECODIGITAL project Analysing the EU Legal Framework of the Digital Economy and Unfolding its Potential, co-funded by the European Union , a properly functioning competitive market necessarily requires the use of such data to comply with privacy regulations. In this respect, EU rules on competition and data protection converge towards a common objective, and Antitrust Authorities are increasingly tasked with applying both frameworks in tandem. This was the case in Germany, where a legal dispute led to Facebook receiving a significant financial penalty, following a judicial process ultimately resolved by the Court of Justice of the European Union.
Professor Giuliano Amato has held numerous high-level institutional roles, including Minister of the Treasury, Minister of the Interior, Prime Minister, President of the Competition Authority, and more recently, Justice and then President of the Constitutional Court.
The event is accredited for continuing professional development (CPD) by both the Bar Association and the Association of Chartered Accountants and Accounting Experts.
