Prof. Carla Palumbo awarded the ‘Career Prize in Physiopathology’

Prof. Carla Palumbo, professor of Human Anatomy at the Unimore Faculty of Medicine and Surgery and of the degree programme in Medicine and Surgery for both civilian and military students, belonging to the Department of Biomedical, Metabolic and Neuroscience Sciences and always committed to the study of the histo-physiopathology of calcified tissues, has been awarded the ‘Lifetime Achievement in Physiopathology’ prize by the ‘ Centre for Women Development of Venus International Foundation ’.

The award was presented at the 10th Annual Women's Meet - AWM 2025 held on 1 March 2025 in Chennai, India, the annual international meeting that supports and promotes women's scientific and entrepreneurial activities.

As part of the meeting, Prof. ssa Palumbo was also an Invited Speaker and gave an appreciated lecture entitled ‘Pal-OS® - An Innovative Proposal Aimed at Strategies of Regenerative Medicine for Critical-Sized Bone Lesions’, in the context of which she illustrated Unimore's patent (filed in 2020-21) concerning the use of scleral ossicles for regenerative medicine strategies aimed at recovering severe skeletal injuries, the Pal-OS® trademark (filed individually in 2022) and the CAM Assay study model, an alternative to animal experimentation (for which it has received funding from the ER Region and a research grant to recruit a young person dedicated to developing the model).

With the same patent and associated trademark, she was ranked second, in the MED-TECH category, in the 2023 Intellectual Property Award, promoted by the Ministry of Made in Italy for female entrepreneurship.

Prof. Carla Palumbo coordinates the Human Morphology Section of the Department of Biomedical, Metabolic and Neuroscience Sciences at Unimore, and alongside her teaching and third mission activities, she carries out an intense research activity dedicated in particular to the problems of calcified tissues.
