Prof. Piotr Migoń of the University of Wroclaw Visiting Professor at Unimore

Starting Monday, March 3rd, Professor Piotr Migoń from the University of Wroclaw (Poland) will be at the Department of Chemical and Geological Sciences at Unimore as a Visiting Professor. He will hold a three-day intensive course, from March 6th to 8th, aimed at PhD students and young researchers, on a very current topic in the geological field: Geodiversity and Geoheritage Contribution of Geosciences to the Global Environmental Agenda.
The course, led by Professor Mauro Soldati, Director of the Department of Chemical and Geological Sciences, aims to explore interconnected concepts such as geodiversity, geological heritage and geoconservation, not only from a theoretical perspective, but also by studying practical applications and associated challenges through specific examples.
"The visit of Professor Piotr Migoń to the Department of Chemical and Geological Sciences is undoubtedly an excellent opportunity to strengthen scientific collaboration between Unimore and the University of Wroclaw on issues related to the management and conservation of geodiversity and geological heritage in the context of sustainability and the goals of the UN 2030 Agenda. The collaboration could also promote student mobility within the Erasmus+ Program, thanks to the existing agreement between the two universities." comments Prof. Soldati.
The seminars will begin with the definition of key concepts and an overview of the developments of the past few decades, which have led to the increasing recognition of the value of abiotic nature and its services. Special emphasis will be placed on the global institutional framework that contributes to the growing awareness of issues related to geodiversity, such as UNESCO's World Heritage and Global Geoparks, as well as some initiatives from international organisations.
Professor Piotr Migoń has specialised in the study of landform modelling and long-term landscape evolution. In particular, he is an internationally renowned expert in the study of landscape forms characterised by the presence of granite and sandstone. Most of his research has been conducted in the Sudetes and other regions of Central Europe, but he has also participated in research in South America and Southeast Asia. He is currently a member of the Executive Committee of the International Association of Geomorphologists (IAG).
Participants in the course will receive a certificate of attendance, including ECTS credits earned. For further information, please contact Professor Soldati: soldati@unimore.it .
