The 12th edition of the School of ‘Chemometric Tools for Process Monitoring’ kicks off at Unimore

The Department of Chemical and Geological Sciences together with the Italian Chemical Society promotes the ‘Chemometrics Tools for Process Monitoring’ School, which aims to provide the basics of process monitoring. In particular, the focus over the four days will be on the industrial context at a level of complexity that requires a multivariate approach to the statistical control of processes to obtain information on their dynamics and evolution for real-time control.

The programme, led by Prof. Marina Cocchi, will be held from Tuesday 11 to Friday 14 February 2025 in the Computer Science Room 3 of the Department of Chemical and Geological Sciences and will provide the basics of principal component analysis (PCA) and partial least squares regression (PLS), the basic concepts of classical control chart methodology, how to obtain and use multivariate control charts (MCC), and an illustration of continuous and batch processes with their own peculiarities with respect to process understanding, monitoring and fault detection. Course lecturers include Prof. Alberto Ferrer of the Polytechnic University of Valencia, an internationally recognised expert in the field.

The School,’ says Prof. Marina Cocchi of Unimore, ’is appreciated for the integration of theoretical foundations and practical exercises, for the space reserved for discussion, and for the presentation of applications developed and existing in different production contexts by those who have developed them”.

The school, which is now in its twelfth year and has attracted wide interest in industry over the years, is aimed at PhD students and researchers from public and private institutions.
