Unimore and Politecnico di Torino's patent receives special Female Entrepreneurship award as part of the MIMIT Intellectual Property Award

On the 140th anniversary of the Italian Patent and Trademark Office (UIBM), the patent Additive Manufacturing Process and Product Obtainable through the Process , whose inventors are Prof. Elena Bassoli and Prof. Andrea Gatto of Unimore, together with Manuela Galati and Prof. Luca Iuliano of the Turin Polytechnic, received the special Female Entrepreneurship award as part of the Intellectual Property Award (IPA) of the Ministry of Enterprise and Made in Italy. This award is reserved for the best patent promoted by research groups composed of at least 50% women or having a woman as principal investigator.
The technology of the patent, which was selected in the competition for The Future from the Space technology area , allows the additive manufacturing process to be controlled in such a way as to intentionally obtain one or more material sections with differentiated mechanical and thermal performance.
"We are honoured and honoured to receive this prestigious award, which is the result of years of research conducted by a close-knit group, convinced of the importance of scientific comparison. This recognition shows that our universities are true incubators of curiosity, where the future is mapped out. The hope is that, one day, the professional environment will become so inclusive that awards specifically dedicated to women will no longer be required, and that everyone will be able to compete on an equal footing,' comments Prof. Elena Bassoli of the 'Enzo Ferrari' Department of Engineering at Unimore.
The Ministry of Enterprise and Made in Italy, in collaboration with NETVAL and Invitalia, organised the 2023 edition of the 'Intellectual Property Award' competition reserved for Italian universities, national public research institutes and institutes for hospitalisation and scientific care that hold patents, with the aim of stimulating innovation and enhancing the creativity of inventors.
The initiative, which awards prizes to the best research patents in six different technological fields(Med tech, Climatech, Agritech, The Energy of the Future, The Future from the Space, The Future of the City (mobility, logistics, cyber security, telecommunications)), aims to publicise and enhance the importance of industrial property and, in particular, of patents for industrial invention, emphasising the importance of Italian research, both academic and industrial, and its ability to generate cutting-edge technological innovation in various production sectors.
