Online October's FocusUnimore with a special feature on the University's 850th anniversary

Online the new issue of FocusUnimore celebrating the 850th anniversary of the University whose roots date back to 1175 when Pillio da Medicina founded a school of law in Modena. The University, which began as a centre of legal excellence, has developed over time to become a place of multidisciplinary growth: Health, Life, Science, Technology, Humanities.
The strength of a university founded 850 years ago lies in its ability to renew itself. Over the years, Unimore has forged partnerships with numerous institutes and research centres, fostering the mobility of students and lecturers and creating knowledge networks that transcend national borders. This approach has enabled Unimore to become part of the global landscape of scientific and technological research.
Today, at 850 years old, the Athenaeum presents itself as a dynamic organism, constantly evolving. The 13 departments, schools and research centres that make up the university are proof of a solid and balanced academic structure. It is with this spirit that Unimore prepares to realise its next chapter, in the knowledge that it has an important history and, at the same time, that it is the protagonist of a future yet to be written.
The celebrations for the 850th anniversary of Unimore opened with an event dedicated to Bernardino Ramazzini, a great master of medicine, today recognised as the founder and father of occupational medicine, and continued with a concert of 14th-century music Il Paradiso di Francesco - Un giardino cortese nella Firenze del Trecento' (The Paradise of Francis - A courteous garden in 14th-century Florence) by the laReverdie medieval music ensemble, to be held at the Church of San Carlo in Modena.
The October issue of FocusUnimore also takes stock of the Research Night which, once again, was a great success with over 4,000 visitors in Modena, Reggio Emilia and Mantua.
Through games, workshops, meetings and experiments, the academics showed their research projects to make the general public understand the discoveries that will lead to new horizons in engineering and medicine, chemistry and pharmaceutical research, geology and human rights, biology and social sciences. The common theme of the Night was Sustainability, with the 17 goals of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Among the many activities in which citizens were able to participate, one in particular had an unexpected outcome: during free heart rhythm screenings, organised by the Cardiology Division, a case of asymptomatic atrial fibrillation was detected in a person who had never had symptoms.
An article is then dedicated to the European FAIRER project that combats the phenomenon of radicalisation in Europe through football.
The 36-month project involves four national football federations (Latvia, Malta, Northern Ireland, Romania) and has the collaboration of Unimore as an academic partner and the support of the UEFA Europa League and the Belgian Football Federation.
The magazine also presents the new PhD Programme in innovative health technologies and products called HIP-TECH, which aims to train experts in the field of human and animal health technologies and products and aims to integrate academic research and industrial applications in the health sector, covering all stages from the conception of new technologies to clinical trials.
Lastly, FocusUnimore pays tribute to Gianna Paglia Lombardini, a prominent figure in the Reggio Emilia community, widow of industrialist Franco Lombardini, under whose leadership Lombardini Motori established itself as a leading European company and the third largest manufacturer of small and medium-sized diesel engines in the 1970s and 1980s. The Lombardini family has always been closely linked to its university, and remembering Gianna Paglia Lombardini means expressing the gratitude of the entire university towards a figure who, in particular, accompanied the birth and development of Unimore's Department of Sciences and Methods for Engineering.
