Prof. Maria Donata Panforti receives the Exceptional Service Award 2023 from the International Society of Family Law

On the occasion of the 18th (Golden Jubilee) World Conference of the International Society of Family Law (ISFL), held from 12 to 15 July 2023 in Antwerp, Prof. Maria Donata Panforti, Professor of Comparative Private Law at the Department of Education and Human Sciences of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, received the Exceptional Service Award 2023.

The award, conferred by the Society's president, Masha Antokolskaia, is an honour bestowed on those who have done particularly outstanding work within the ISFL. Over the years, the Exceptional Service Award has been presented to such prestigious personalities as Ruth Deech, John Eekelaar, Yukiki Matsushima, Lynn Wardle, Nigel Lowe and Sanford Katz.

ISFL, the leading international association active in the field of family law, founded in 1973, gathers experts from more than fifty countries worldwide. Prof. Panforti joined the Association's Executive Council in 1995, being the first Italian to be a member, and was subsequently Vice-President from 2015 to 2023.

Prof. Panforti also organised four Council meetings at Unimore: two in Modena, in 2000 at the then Department of Legal Sciences (now Law Department) and in 2006 at the Department of Studies on Language and Culture, two in Reggio Emilia, in 2012 and 2016, at the Department of Education and Human Sciences. The Unimore venue in Reggio Emilia also hosted two international congresses sponsored by the Society, the first of which was dedicated to 'Parents and Children - An Evolving Relation' (2012) and the second entitled 'Children's Rights Thirty Years After 1989' (2019).

"I am very happy and honoured to have received the Exceptional Service Award from the International Society of Family Law," comments Prof. Maria Donata Panforti, "which represents an important moment in my scientific and academic career. As the comparatist that I am, I have always maintained a continuous dialogue with scholars of legal systems other than our own, and this has benefited both my work in general and my teaching activities for students.  The Society, in this respect, has always been a particularly happy, constructive and, I might add although it may seem unusual for a scientific association, friendly cultural environment."

"I am pleased," concludes Prof. Panforti, "to share my satisfaction with this award with my colleagues at Unimore because I recognise with pleasure that I have always been able to count on great support from the Directors and Managers of the Departments at which I have organised various initiatives, as well as on the effective collaboration of the technical-administrative staff."
