Unimore welcomes a delegation of Ukrainian lecturers to promote integration in the European context

The University of Modena and Reggio Emilia will host a delegation of lecturers from the National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine (Kiev) and Podillia State University (Kamianets-Podilskyi) from 26 to 30 June.

This meeting takes place in the context of a collaborative programme with which UNIgreen intends to promote a series of educational and research partnerships aimed at fostering Ukraine's integration into the European context. In this context, the educational offer of Unimore and the Department of Life Sciences will be presented with a special focus on the themes of agribusiness, circular and sustainable economy, biotechnology and life sciences, but it will also be an opportunity to illustrate the objectives and aims that inspired the creation of a European University.

An initiative created as part of the Erasmus+ Programme (European University Network - EUN action), UNIgreen represents an alliance of eight European universities. "These universities," comments Prof. Alessandro Capra, Unimore's Delegate for Internationalisation, "are pooling their experience in teaching, research, innovation and good practices to create a joint project based on the principles of excellence, innovation and inclusion as part of a network that can progressively include other partners. It is a testimony to the University's long-standing commitment to participate in and create international networks."

During the visit, the Ukrainian delegation will also have the opportunity to discover the projects through which Unimore integrates itself into the European context, as well as Unimore's experience in fostering inclusion and overcoming disabilities, illustrating the services that the University offers to its students. "Within UNIgreen," emphasises Prof. Daniela Quaglino, UNIgreen's Training Activities Coordinator, "Unimore plays a primary role in linking and coordinating the various partners to promote highly qualified training activities. The visit of the Ukrainian delegation allows us to be close to colleagues who are facing enormous difficulties, but who want to look to the future with determination knowing that they can count on the support of the international scientific community."

The topics of life sciences, biotechnology and sustainability in agribusiness will be the focus of the dialogue with the Ukrainian delegation. "We hope that these interactions," comments Prof. Enrico Francia, Unimore's Research Coordinator for UNIgreen, "can lay the foundations for a future reconstruction of the territory necessary for the development of an innovative and sustainable economy.  The visit, including bilateral meetings between lecturers on topics of mutual interest, will provide an opportunity to illustrate the interaction between teaching and basic and applied research. It is precisely the topic of technology transfer that will be the subject of a one-day visit to the Biogest-Siteia interdepartmental centre at the Reggio Emilia Technopole.
