Prof. Giulio Garuti reconfirmed as vice-president of the Association of Criminal Trial Scholars

Prestigious confirmation for Prof. Giulio Garuti, Professor of Criminal Procedure Law at the Unimore Department of Law, who, during the Annual Conference of the Association of Criminal Trial Law Scholars 'G.D. Pisapia' was re-elected to the national board and reconfirmed as vice-president.
From 12 to 14 December 2024, the Association's annual conference was held at the University of Milan, entitled Where criminal justice is going ', which focused on topics of great relevance, such as the transformations of the accusatory system, the role of technologies in fundamental rights and the effectiveness of judicial controls. During the conference, which was attended by numerous academics and experts in the field, the Members' Meeting was also held to renew the board positions.
Also re-elected was the president, Professor Adolfo Scalfati, Professor of Criminal Procedure Law at the University of Rome Tor Vergata, who reconfirmed Professor Garuti as vice-president.
On the reappointment, Prof. Giulio Garuti said: I am honoured by the renewed confidence shown in the Board. We will continue to work towards all three objectives that the Association has pursued since its foundation: to strengthen relations between members of the scientific community, to reconstruct the dynamics of the criminal justice process with constant attention also to judicial practice, and to contribute to legislative action. This is an important mandate, especially in a historical period of continuous reforms.
Giulio Garuti is Full Professor of Criminal Procedural Law at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, where he teaches Criminal Procedural Law and Criminal Procedural Law of Companies. During his career, he was the director of the School of Specialisation for the Legal Professions and vice dean of the Faculty of Law. He was a member of the board of the 'G.D. Pisapia' Association from 2008 to 2014 and, from November 2011 to November 2015, he was a member of the Steering Committee of the Higher School of the Judiciary. Author of three monographs and approximately 170 scientific publications, Professor Garuti is part of the scientific direction of leading journals and series in the field of criminal procedural law. A lawyer qualified to the higher courts, he is in charge of the National Observatory on Legislative Decree 231/2001 of the Union of Criminal Chambers.
The 'G.D. Pisapia' Association, founded to promote the reform and improvement of the criminal procedure system, works to foster scientific collaboration between scholars and contribute to studies from a historical, comparative and politico-legislative perspective. Active throughout the country, it is a point of reference for the academic and professional community.
