Prof. Mauro Soldati has been nominated President of the Italian Association of Physical Geography and Geomorphology

The Governing Council of the Italian Association of Physical Geography and Geomorphology (AIGeo), elected last October in Palermo, unanimously appointed its President for the three-year period 2023-2025, Prof. Mauro Soldati, Professor of the Department of Chemical and Geological Sciences at Unimore. Prof. Manuela Pelfini, Ordinaria of the Department of Earth Sciences of the State University of Milan, and Prof. Paola Coratza, Associate of the Department of Chemical and Geological Sciences of Unimore were appointed Deputy President and Treasurer, respectively.

‘I am delighted and honoured to chair an association of such recognised prestige as AIGeo and it is with great enthusiasm that I am about to start this new adventure. I will draw on the experience I have gained during my career to ensure that the Association can play an increasingly important role in the international scientific community and so that our young researchers have the best opportunities for cooperation. The prospects that may occur are innumerable, including that of a possible Italian participation in the International Geomorphology Conference scheduled for 2030. This would be an exceptional opportunity to bring Italian Geomorphology to the attention of the entire world and allow the now emerging generation to definitively establish itself internationally' said Prof. Soldati.

The AIGeo was established in the year 2000 on the initiative of the “Gruppo Nazionale di Geografia fisica e Geomorfologia” (National Group of Physical Geography and Geomorphology) of the Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche (National Research Council) and has more than 260 members from Italian universities, research institutions, public administrations and companies involved in the study of the physical landscape and its evolution, with particular reference to natural hazards related to climate change and the enhancement of the geological heritage. The association also promotes initiatives for the training of young researchers and the dissemination of land and environmental culture.
