CNU 2023: CUS Mo.Re wins seven gold, six silver and two bronze medals

The athletes of CUS Mo.Re, including many male and female students participating in the USE - Unimore Sport Excellence programme, racked up a full complement of medals at the 2023 National University Championships, which ended on 25 June in Camerino, with seven gold, six silver and two bronze medals.

A top-level event, with many athletes taking part in Italian and European championships, ahead of the World University Games to be held in Chengdu, China, from 28 July to 8 August. Among the many prestigious names on the Unimore University Sports Centre teams: Riccardo Gollini (Valsa Group Modena Volleyball Serie A), Luca Pagnani and Giovanni Mattioli (ValoRugby Serie A), Chiara Landucci (Esperia Cremona of A2) as well as several individual athletes at national level (Alessandro Giacobazzi, Enrico Riccobon, Alberto Montanari).

"I would like to thank the male and female students who, in this exam period, still wanted to compete by wearing the Unimore and Cus More jersey and achieved truly outstanding results. I think that a university can also gain importance and visibility on the national scene through the medals it manages to win at university sports championships. For some years now, Unimore has been achieving previously unthinkable goals in the field of sport, encouraging the dual careers of student-athletes through the USE - Unimore Sport Excellence project”, commented Prof. Isabella Morlini, the Rector's Delegate for Sport.

The highest step of the podium was conquered by Camilla Balestrazzi, a USE athlete, in Taekwondo; by the Men's Volleyball team for the second year running (Marcello Andreoli, Giovanni Battilani - USE, Stefano Bedin, Mentore Daolio, Francesco Degoli - USE, Ayman Garaouy, Riccardo Gollini - USE, Gabriele Gozzi - USE, Alessandro Morselli, Elia Motta, Samuele Odorici - USE, Edoardo Sartoretti, Demetrio Soli - USE); in team chess by Luca Ballotti - USE, Francesco Ferraguti, Luca Tazzioli and Lara Scagliarini; in athletics by Alberto Montanari, 400 metres, (47"31), Enrico Benuzzi, 110 hurdles (14"56), Giuseppe Gravante, 1500 metres, (3'50"81) and Michele De Berti - USE, 800 metres (1'49"30).

The six silver medals for Cus Mo. Re went to Jacopo Berneschi (USE) in Taekwondo, Filippo Gibertini in Judo and in Athletics to Giulia Cordazzo - USE, 1500 metres (4'32"63), Sara Cantergiani - USE, 400 hurdles, (59"77), in the men's 4x400 relay, with Alec Magni Baraldi, Michele De Berti, Enrico Riccobon, Alberto Montanari - USE and in the women's 4x400 relay, thanks to Alessia Baldini - USE, Irene Pini, Sara Cantergiani, Alessandra Morandi - USE.

To close the podium, the two bronze medals went to Camilla Balestrazzi in Taekwondo and the men's Athletics team.

"I would also like to sincerely thank all my colleagues and fellow lecturers who, during this period, agreed to the request for one of the didactic benefits provided for in the USE announcement: the postponement of the exam by a few days to coincide with the date of the competition at the national university championships," concluded Prof. Morlini.
